So The First Mortal Kombat Film Turned 20, Mortal Kombat X Occurs 20 Years After Mortal Kombat (2011)!

What pretty much slipped my mind is that the Mortal Kombat film (which premiered last August 18, 1995) had turned 20 yesterday.  So really, the coincidence is Mortal Kombat X (the current generation consoles) got released last April 14, 2015, the game takes place 20 years after Mortal Kombat (2011), with new generation fighters.  So here's a bit of what I also thought about was pretty much coincidental.

Johnny Cage's Mortal Kombat X bio states that Johnny Cage is 50 something.  Guess what?  Linden Ashby the very actor who portrayed the character way back is already 55 years old and has two daughters one born in 1991 and the other born in 1992.  Judging by their ages, they would be 24 and 23 respectively, perhaps the same age as Cassie Cage.  On the other hand, Brigitte Wilson-Sampras has two sons born last 2002 and 2005 and she is only 41 years old as of present.

What also amazes me is how the Mortal Kombat (2011) game also pays tribute to the Mortal Kombat movie in some way.  The events of the first tournament took a few turns similar to the movie like Liu Kang meeting Kitana in the first tournament, Shang Tsung has the classic phrase, "YOUR SOUL IS MINE!" which I wish he were voiced by Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa, Sonya Blade looking more like the movie version or Kano himself looks more like the late Trevor Goddard since Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

In Mortal Kombat X where intros will vary per character, I still can't help but notice a bit of Johnny Cage and Goro.  Now for the game's canon, we know that Mortal Kombat's storyline had Liu Kang defeat Goro in both their past lives (first game) and next lives (the reboot game).  However when Johnny Cage faces Goro, he makes two references to the film.  Johnny Cage tells Goro about the sunglasses in the first interaction, the second interaction has Johnny Cage saying, "Heading for a fall Goro."  If you remember how it went in the film, Goro crushed Johnny Cage's sunglasses.  Later, Goro was outsmarted and fell into a cliff.

When I think about how 20 years has passed since that film and how Mortal Kombat X takes place 20 years after Mortal Kombat (2011), is it really a freaking coincidence?  I even have in my mind that maybe, Ed Boon had the first film in his mind.  Oh, speaking of which, I also thought Jax's Revenant form looked like Jax from MK Annihilation, which was, maybe to say that they weren't impressed with that super mediocre film.
