Kabal. Although he's not my favorite but I thought that pretty much had a blur role as Kabal. He started off in Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate/Trilogy as a member of the Black Dragon who got spared from being soul-sucked by Shao Kahn. So he was chosen for some reason where he was spared but forced to wear an artificial respirator for the rest of his life. He had begun to see the light that is for awhile, he helped the Earth warriors fight against the Outworld invasion. However he was not seen in MK4 or Gold but later was mentioned in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. While he supposedly left the Black Dragon, Mavado defeated him and mortally wounded him, claimed his hookswords but that was NOT the end of Kabal.
What happened was his allegiance was supposedly good, the cleric of Chaosrealm, Havik took advantage of him and revived him from near death returning him to the side of evil in Mortal Kombat Deception where he vowed to reform the Black Dragon under a new order. He started with Kira and Kobra, his two new recruits vowing to be better than Kano's. So it's possible Havik had corrupted his mind in some way. In Armageddon he is seen fighting with the forces of darkness probably only to get revenge on Mavado, like Scorpion is on the forces of darkness to get revenge on Quan Chi. Before that, he encountered Taven at the Temple of Argus where he planned to recruit the latter into his clan. Later, he was killed in Armageddon.
In the reboot timeline, he has become a police officer prior to his scarring. How that happened is unknown. What later happens is that he is mortally wounded by Kintaro's flames. He was rescued by Kano and was healed by Quan Chi, except he was forced to wear a mask. He joined the Earth forces like he did in the original timeline. What happened was in the battle against Sindel, he along with Nightwolf, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Jax, Smoke and Stryker all got killed. He was then made part of the undead army of Shinnok.
