The Struggle Against Goro From 1992 To 2015

Goro is perhaps that legendary sub-boss of Mortal Kombat -- though I personally found Kintaro in MK2 way harder than he was. What memories are there of this four-armed behemoth? I remembered how this guy took nearly a quarter of your health in ONE PUNCH and he could win the round in less than half the time there is! You can think of how this guy fires dangerous fireballs, he could stomp you, uppercut you so high and use his chest pound to do massive damage! It's no wonder why he was the undisputed champion of Outworld for nine generations of the Mortal Kombat tournament -- that was until Liu Kang took away said title from him!

The four-armed behemoth went missing and was temporarily taken over by Kintaro and later by Motaro. He returned as a random sub-boss in Mortal Kombat Trilogy where he still had massive damage. He had an additional spin attack but lacked his stomp attack. He was made playable to both the PSX and the Sega Saturn. Hmmm... one could consider Mortal Kombat Trilogy was easily a very imbalanced game, especially since you were allowed to play as overpowered bosses! He was still a pain but not as much as the first game since you could beat him up with another boss or use the automatic combos to defeat him.

He returned in Mortal Kombat 4/Gold as the sub-boss who was only playable via a code. The Nintendo 64 allowed you to have two Goros on-screen though the PSX (and later the Dreamcast) never did for some reason so you ended up fighting Shinnok twice in those versions. In this version, he was somewhat depowered but still powerful as heck. Sure, you could throw him but he had a nasty arsenal of moves. He would end up firing fireballs from his mouth rather than from his hand like Kintaro would. I remembered how I was easily defeated by him until I later spammed certain characters!

He did make a return in Mortal Kombat Deception, Unchained (the PSP upgrade for Deception), and Armageddon where he was considerably depowered one way or another. He wasn't really that powerful in these versions. However, he soon returned as a non-playable in Mortal Kombat (2011) where he was once again given extra powerful moves but not as painful as back in the old school days. MK (2011) was once again making Goro somewhat of a nightmare but lacked the extreme frustration from the first game. Fortunately, no extreme frustration while still giving much of a challenge!

Eventually, Mortal Kombat X made him a pre-order DLC though I got XL instead. What I thought was fun was that Goro was now a sub-boss you could finish off! Yes, I thought about how it's sort of, "It's payback time!" for all the time he's caused so many nightmares in the 2D days! I soon managed to really get even with him -- even when he's depowered. It was finally a bit of what I'd call ending the long nightmare against the legendary four-armed monster with MKX.
