It's understandable if you had to pay some money to get the Aftermath pack because it's not easy developing it. It takes money to add more chapters into story mode. However, I'd like to say that after viewing the story mode - I think everything's just starting to feel like WTF why would I want to spend some of my own savings on a bad extension? I even wish Doug Walker or the Nostalgia Critic will step in AND beat this game up to pieces.
Aftermath takes place where the original story mode left off. Shang Tsung (acted by Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa here) appears and proposes an alliance. Fire God Liu Kang agrees to it but is wary. They have no choice but to get Kronika's crown since it's necessary to create a new timeline. However, a lot of stuff here is either showing a lot of inconsistencies or questionable plots. Maybe, Johnny Cage and Cassie Cage beating up Shinnok was already just the start of that! At least, Liu Kang getting upgraded as a fire god gave us better reasons why he could beat up Kronika. Johnny's and Cassie's green energy was more on plot armor and Shinnok is an Elder God.

The big signal something's not right started with the Sindel retcon. Yes, #NotMySindel is a very good hashtag to defeat it. Originally, Sindel was forced to wed Shao Kahn so he could legitimize his claim over Edenia. Sindel's original story had her commit suicide to create a barrier to defend Earthrealm from Outworld. That's why Shao Kahn had to resurrect her in Earthrealm in the original timeline and Quan Chi revived her for the same reason. Her MK11 tower ending is too sudden of a change. She was one person who truly loved Jerrod. But now, are the new writers trying to convince us that she was evil all along?
I always felt that Shao Kahn's and Sindel's romantic interactions DON'T make any sense. Sindel having had betrayed Jerrod for Shao Kahn feels too anti-climatic. Her MK9 non-canon ending had her free of Shao Kahn's spell and defeat Shao Kahn. It was always established that Shao Kahn took her against her will and adopted Kitana to be raised as an assassin. Apparently, Shao Kahn probably has many women evidenced by his outro. Sindel seems to be his favorite because she was a queen while the other hotter women he had were merely commoners. I really wish that Sindel was still bewitched even after she was restored to human form because Shang Tsung did it on purpose. Maybe, have Sindel awaken to her senses, try to betray Shao Kahn but only for her to be finished off because she's outlived her purpose.

I was thinking about the inconsistent power levels in the franchise as a whole. I still think Liu Kang defeating Shinnok in the original timeline is questionable. I also felt the final chapter of MKX should've been devoted to Raiden ending his ancient feud with Shinnok for good. Now, Shang Tsung (the first final boss) gets to be treacherous and monstrous to new levels. How much power does the crown grant its wearer? Jacqui herself nearly strained from using it to defeat Cetrion. Why does Shang Tsung wear it with ease? He's thousands of years old. Shang Tsung wears the crown and overpowers everyone from stealing Raiden'sand Fujin's souls (and both are GODS) then he would later do the same thing to Shao Kahn, Sindel, and EVEN Kronika who is a TITAN. Shang Tsung absorbing their souls just felt like crazy. I even wonder what happens to a god after they die? Well, mythologies do state that they end up in the Underworld like what happened to the Titans in Greek mythology or to Baldur in Norse Mythology.
For me, not really worth it to spend extra money which I could use to get more stuff or save up for future investments after getting the game. Corporate Commander rules, right?
