The Scattered Snakemen In He-Man And She-Ra

There's always this myth that the He-Man toyline was supposed to be a Conan toyline. Some say it was supposed to be cased from the Conan the Barbarian (1982) film though the blatant inspirations are taken from the COMICS. For example, it's too obvious that Skeletor is indeed a lighter version Thulsa Doom (no, NOT the Movie Thulsa Doom) as both have a skull for a head. The more subtle (or not) was when the cartoon (and the later toyline) snuck past the snakemen into the He-Man mythos.

I guess the 1983 He-Man cartoon never spared to take some notes from the movie. Skeletor's base is known as SNAKE MOUNTAIN while the 1982 movie had a base called the Mountain of Power. In the comics, Thulsa Doom was a worshiper of the great serpent god Set centuries before Thoth-Amon. One of Skeletor's minions is Kobra Khan, a member of the Reptons. The Reptons are a distant relative of the original snakemen. King Hiss NEVER made an appearance in the 1980s cartoon. King Hiss was introduced as an additional toyline but never got animated for a reason. I guess King Hiss was a third wheel of sorts.

In the comics, both Skeletor and King Hiss had an uneasy alliance. Both of them hate each other but have to team up against He-Man. It's pretty much how Thulsa Doom and Thoth-Amon (whom King Hiss is based on) have a heavy distrust with each other.

Meanwhile, Hordak had two snakemen minions namely Tang Lashor and Rattlor. The two of them served as comic relief for the Evil Horde. In the comics, both of them served the Evil Horde because they had nowhere to go. Strangely, they never went to serve Skeletor when Kobra Khan did. The two were reddish instead of green for a reason.

The failed He-Man (2002) reboot gave us the first animation for King Hiss. Here, King Hiss appears to be VERY DEADLY and not to be underestimated. In fact, this King Hiss had the potential to be smarter and eviler than Skeletor. Some plots from the 1990s cartoon Conan the Adventurer were added such as when King Hiss seeks to return his god Serpos to Eternia. Serpos is obviously a tribute to the serpent god Set from Conan. This time, the snakemen were gathered under Hiss. That means Tang Lashor and Rattlor NEVER served the Horde. The show was canceled before Hordak could ever return. Talk about the bummer like what happened to Galtar and the Golden Lance
