First Impressions On "Blue SWAT" - A Toku That's Probably Chock Full Of American Alien Invasion Influences

Some 1980s to 1990s masterpieces can be overshadowed, right? Whether it'd be some Super Sentai before Hyajakuu Sentai Gaoranger (because most of them can go overboard with dramatic tones), the older Kamen Rider series (because it was definitely still struggling to find its identity), AND the Metal Hero series (because the franchise' plug got pulled). Metal Hero was canceled but never forgotten. Come on, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider still make references to it a LOT. One show I decided to check out is Blue SWAT. Metal Hero got canceled like the Super Robot Anime franchise. That's why I felt that Super Sentai may get canceled one day -- if ever Toei creates a new genre that will override it!

I've watched Blue SWAT into six episodes! Yes, that's why I deleted my Dengeki Sentai Changeman watch-a-thon posts! Blogging is just a hobby so these posts are NEVER obligatory! Anyway, I'd like to talk about my first impressions on Blue SWAT. I heard it was enjoyed by older fans (presumably teens and young adults) but not with the children. I've watched the first few episodes and MAN ARE THEY MORE MATURE than what Tokosou Sentai Dekaranger (which is a show full of Metal Hero references) ever did!

The Blue SWAT organization was DECIMATED by the Space Mafia. Now, only a team of detectives survive because -- PLOT REQUIRES IT?! Himitsu Sentai Goranger gave Plot Armor to the heroes -- so they survive what should've been their deaths in the first episode! Typical in superhero fiction, right? The show involves aliens taking over the bodies of humans. Yeesh! It's typical Hollywood sci-fi over there! Did the producers and writers watch episodes of classic American sci-fi which I haven't heard about?

Blue SWAT came AFTER Tokosou Robo Janperson -- the latter being MY favorite Metal Hero series. It also had the Rescue Police Trilogy to mimic in some way. However, they have been gunning down alien fugitives -- members of the Space Mafia. The heroes didn't have any fancy morphing sequences. Instead, they carried over their morphing like the Rescue Police Trilogy. Hmmm... I even felt my inner child didn't like it. Only my adult self enjoyed the increased degree of realism in this show. However, I have to put in mind that the show eventually got retooled along the way -- because of the primary market! It's pretty much like how Choriki Sentai Ohranger got a retool after the Sarin Gas Incident!

TBH I miss the exaggerated fight scenes of the 1990s. Dekaranger's fight scenes are almost near PG-7 levels -- presumably due to how Japanese censorship laws evolved overtime. So far, I'm having fun with Blue SWAT
