My First Impressions On Special Rescue Exceedraft

Is it me or do I miss the time when Tokusatsu was more action-oriented and much less of a toy commercial? This time, I'm watching Exceedraft which was FINALLY subbed by Sailor Otaku (also alternatively known as Weeaboo Shogun). It's time to get into the first episode of the show. This was supposed to take in a different continuity than Winspector and Solbrain but later added as part of the Rescue Police Trilogy. Last year was its 25th anniversary and I was very disappointed as to why it didn't surface after that.

The first two members are introduced as Kosuko and Ken who are Blues and Keace. Kosaku seems to be the dandy one while Ken is the joker of the group.

Unlike the first two series, they are using this jeep compared to Winspector and Solbrain using cars. Quite interestingly, the GoGoFive siblings drove around a jeep when they were in civilian form. This is well-equipped with equipment to put out fire.

We are introduced to the mentors of Exceedraft. We have Ai Hyuga and her boss Special Rescue Exceedraft Commander Jukichi Katsuragi.

Watching this episode reminds me of the soon-to-end Kyuranger. Their commander is sort of an idiot, seemingly laid back but can get serious when he needs to. He appears to be lazy at first, but suddenly leaves during a crucial moment. In reality, he went to the space center to learn about the barrier and how it can be dealt with. Hmmm, did this guy inspire Professor Mondo Tatsumi and Shou Ronpou for Kyuranger with him appearing seemingly carefree but he's actually dedicated to his work?

It turns out that the mysterious man, in the beginning, is actually Exceedraft's captain! Yup, he's one badass fellow. He appears to his two fellow teammates and tells them what to do. They discover that he's the captain of the new rescue team called Exceedraft. IMO, I think Hayato Kano is really another legend like Ryoma Kagawa was in Winspector.

The show defines lightspeed rescue through the power of their suits. The suits would momentarily allow the heroes to move at the speed of light. The bus was hijacked, it's a hi-jacking operation gone wrong. The bus causes much damage and ONLY a literal lightspeed rescue can save the day. Sidenote, GoGoFive or Lightspeed Rescue could have finished the rescue faster because they've got giant mecha to help them out. This happens as they literally break the law of physics to save the day. While Lightspeed Rescue in PR Lightspeed Rescue is just a metaphor for readiness, Exceedraft takes it literally whenever the heroes try to defy the speed of light in their rescue operations. So why didn't GoGoFive and Lightspeed Rescue add this feature to their suits?

The bus explosion scene is really something. They have one minute and they have to do a lightspeed rescue. I admit, it was one thrilling scene. No giant mecha to help save the day. Just human-sized power and they were able to pull off a very daring rescue mission.
