Daimos' Ending?

I remembered the time I saw the Filipino-English dub of Tosshou Daimos on GMA-7. I really wonder did Richard (Kazuya) die in the end? It seemed to be as Erika wept as Richard closed his eyes. Yet, he didn't spit out blood or what? then there's the narration that follows...

If you've noticed - it says that "The devotion of Kazuya and Erika who risked their lives for love and peace led to a new era for the future for the people of Baam and Earth." Then the narration says that the new era is left to our imagination. The Telesuccess end narration says, "Richard and Erika, through their love for one another form a BOND not just between themselves but also to the people on earth and their cosmic neighbors, and as a new race rise its birth, the universe resounds it's welcome" So it's possible that the narration implies Kazuya was simply just tired and Erika was crying tears of joy.

So, what's the interpretation? It has an open-ended ending. My interpretation is that they did get together. Maybe, the Baams eventually started moving to Earth and became legally Earthlings. Maybe, Kazuya and Erika did get married and started a normal life on Earth instead of the space station they were in. So far, Toei has left it up to the imaginations of the fans at this point.

  1. The Baams were said to settle on Mars which can accommodate their entire population, the planet was successfully terraformed.

    1. I saw the ending once as a college kid in english on abs-cbn > my interpretation had always been that Richard died cos he was shot up (I mean anybody who'd be riddled with gunfire (laser or otherwise) would die from that) (but Sean Connery in Untouchables lasted for a bit even after being shot up by a machine gun so it's plausible that Kazuya lasted for a bit after getting shot up too) ~ and he closed his eyes and Erika cried. But a college friend insisted that he lived and he and Erika started a new race (one winged babies? lol just kidding (don't mean to be sarcastic, I am a crazy huge Daimos fan) >> I always thought to myself that that was wishful girly romantic thinking on her part and that Richard really did bite the big one in the end, and that Erika became Queen of the Baamins and spent the rest of her life mourning Richard. But being a girl too I guess it might've been nice if Kazuya made it. He's a nice guy. He deserves it. But life is seldom fair. So I see Toei deliberately left it ambiguous. Clever. Super super thank you for this post. Gosh almost 30 years for after seeing the ending > it's nice to know that he MAY have made it after all ^_^ Just binge watched the whole series in English (the bad Telesuccess dub only heightens its charms) telling myself things like "poor Richard, he only has six episodes left to live" >> nice to know that maybe for once this wasn't a Gladiator ending after all and that he and Erika may have lived happily ever after, after all. Other wikia's don't mention the ending either, so it really must've deliberately been ambiguous. Only way is to corner Saburo Yatsude x the original author and beat the truth out of him like Kazuya gave it to General Harris toward the end (dang that felt so good (I'm sorry, and I know, but it really did feel good) > and the possible happy ending after all, kind of feels good too >> THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!!!
