Daimos' Main Villain, Generalissimo Olban's Contingency Planning

Image
I did notice there seem to be a lot of things copied over by Toei themselves. The late Tadao Nagahama's Robot Romance Trilogy went to a full-blown romance. Yes, it's a Romeo and Juliet though spoilers, Kazuya and Erika did make it through. I guess Kazuya was just too exhausted and the way he collapsed, didn't look like he died. I re-watched and the ending says that as long as both lived - both races came together. Now, it's time to examine another Super Robot villain we love to hate - Generalismo Olban. Olban was the main villain of Daimos . He's pretty much an Expy to Zu Zambojil of Voltes V and may have inspired Emperor Corsair in Dairugger XV.  Unlike Zambojil, we saw Olban giving Richter orders to conquer the Earth. As a villain, Richter only wants to save his people but Olban has other plans. Richter got into the fight because his father, the late Generalissimo Leon, was poisoned at a lunar base. There are some obvious clues early on to which would get rather o...

Daimos' Other Villain, General Sakimori Miwa

There was the late Tadao Nagahama's Super Robot Romance Trilogy . The third and final installment was known as Tosho Daimos . Daimos' main villain was Generalismo Olban. The show explored a Romeo and Juliet type of love story between two races - Earthlings and Baam-Seijins. Both Kazuya and Erika would keep learning that not everyone from their race is purely good or purely evil. Like Combattler V and Voltes V before it - Daimos also had good members of the alien race. Daimos decided to add a bigoted character who hated all Baam-Sejins alike. That guy was actually General Sakimori Miwa who was dubbed over as General Harris. I'd like to bring up why this guy was probably one of the best villain plots ever conceived. In war, some people are plain opportunists. Miwa's supposedly on the side of good but in reality, he's probably best suited for Complete Monster. He was supposedly an ally of Daimobic. However, he was far from an ally like General Oka from Voltes V . Inst...

Daimos' Ending?

Image
I remembered the time I saw the Filipino-English dub of Tosshou Daimos on GMA-7. I really wonder did Richard (Kazuya) die in the end? It seemed to be as Erika wept as Richard closed his eyes. Yet, he didn't spit out blood or what? then there's the narration that follows... If you've noticed - it says that "The devotion of Kazuya and Erika who risked their lives for love and peace led to a new era for the future for the people of Baam and Earth." Then the narration says that the new era is left to our imagination. The Telesuccess end narration says, "Richard and Erika, through their love for one another form a BOND not just between themselves but also to the people on earth and their cosmic neighbors, and as a new race rise its birth, the universe resounds it's welcome" So it's possible that the narration implies Kazuya was simply just tired and Erika was crying tears of joy.  So, what's the interpretation? It has an open-ended end...

Remembering The Super Robot Romance Of Daimos

Image
Daimos is one Anime that I could remember back in the 90s. I did see it in English dub though I wish to see it soon in Japanese with proper subtitles. Even with some of the inaccuracies in the English dub but some plot remained intact anyway. The story of Daimos might have been set as another warning to the Japanese people to learn from their past. There's xenophobia and the wickedness of humanity has been explored on both sides. One side is the Baam has wicked bigots and so does humanity. General Miura (Harris) serves as humanity's embodiment of bigotry and the secondary antagonist. The Baams have Prince Richter (Ulrich) and General Olban though the enemies aren't truly evil either.
