It's know that not only am I a Poison Ivy fanboy but I also ship her and Batman. I have to take IMDB with a grain of salt. This is what I heard happened during the Batman Forever casting:
Joel Schumacher wanted Nicole Kidman to play Poison Ivy, but he decided that Ivy, Two-Face and the Riddler would be too many villains for Batman. Poison Ivy (played by Uma Thurman) was saved for Batman & Robin (1997).
Interestingly, the next movie
Batman and Robin was too many villains. Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane are practically NOT a good mix. Wouldn't Poison Ivy complain if plant life were frozen by Mr. Freeze? Plus, I hated the subplot of Poison Ivy seducing Robin WHEN she she could be seducing Batman. Comic Book Resources says this about
Nicole's role:
Nicole Kidman did well as Dr. Chase Meridian in Batman Forever, but one can't help but notice that character's flirtatious demeanor and Kidman's red hair and wonder why the actress wasn't cast as Poison Ivy instead.
In fact, Ivy could have masqueraded as a therapist like Meridian who seduces Bruce Wayne and gets him to reveal his secrets to her, similar to her role in Batman: The Long Halloween. No offense to Uma Thurman, but Kidman would have knocked that deadlier incarnation of Poison Ivy out of the park.
Uma Thurman is a good actress, BUT casting her as Poison Ivy was stupid. It's kinda like Emma Watson's casting as Belle was flat-out weird -- despite credentials! I remember complaining about Uma's role as Poison Ivy -- wishing it were Nicole over Uma. Why Nicole? Come on, Nicole looks prettier than Uma! Uma's look didn't match the part. Uma was far better off doing Kill Bill because she's got an assassin's look. Nicole had a more flirty appearance that would match the villainess! Uma was a complete miscast. Uma as Catwoman could've worked better. Nicole would've made a good Poison Ivy!
Poison Ivy was already introduced as an anti-villain. It could've been something IF she discovered Batman's identity but refuses to reveal it. It would've been something if Poison Ivy helped Batman defeat both Riddler and Two-Face. Of course, Poison Ivy hands herself while still having romantic feelings for Batman.
So yeah, the problem they feared would happen in Batman Forever -- got carried over in the worst way possible two years later!
