What, Nicole Kidman Was Going To Be Poison Ivy?

Image
It's know that not only am I a Poison Ivy fanboy but I also ship her and Batman. I have to take IMDB with a grain of salt. This is what I heard happened during the Batman Forever casting: Joel Schumacher wanted Nicole Kidman to play Poison Ivy, but he decided that Ivy, Two-Face and the Riddler would be too many villains for Batman. Poison Ivy (played by Uma Thurman) was saved for Batman & Robin (1997) . Interestingly, the next movie Batman and Robin was too many villains. Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane are practically NOT a good mix. Wouldn't Poison Ivy complain if plant life were frozen by Mr. Freeze? Plus, I hated the subplot of Poison Ivy seducing Robin WHEN she she could be seducing Batman. Comic Book Resources says this about Nicole's role : Nicole Kidman did well as Dr. Chase Meridian in Batman Forever, but one can't help but notice that character's flirtatious demeanor and Kidman's red hair and wonder why the actress wasn't cast as Poison Ivy in...

Remembering The Late Val Kilmer For "Batman Forever": Perhaps One Of The Best Portrayals Of The Dark Knight

Image
Another nostalgia gone too soon? It was already bad enough that Barbie Xu died of pneumonia at age 48. Val Kilmer died of pneumonia at age 65. The guy's old enough to be my parent -- which may give me reason to give him deeper respect. Batman Forever was part of my childhood. The sequel Batman and Robin was a surefire stinker that presented one-dimensional, almost Pure Evil villains.  I was disappointed to think about Val not returning for Batman and Robin . But maybe, it was for the best he didn't. Why? That movie STANK beyond STANK. I could understand if I wrote a bad fan fic since I'M NO PROFESSIONAL WRITER. Come on, you've already noticed my writing style is rather casual. However, anybody can cringe when a team of professionals is screwing up bad. A 2020 interview with the actor , gave meaning to why he never reprised the role: In a new profile on Val Kilmer from The New York Times, the actor addresses his departure from the role of Batman. After only starring in B...

Potential Direction: My Own Turn Of What Could've Been Done With Poison Ivy And Harley Quinn In An Alternate Animated Future

Image
I wrote about what could've been done with Batman and Catwoman in Batman Beyond . Should I be glad it never happened or not? Seeing photos of Adam West and Julie Newmar in reunions can inspire ideas. The idea that Batman and Catwoman as an elderly couple was explored in Rebirth . Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is a fanservice. The OG Joker returns in an elderly Tim Drake's body. There was a cameo of Harley Quinn (now an old woman). However, I'd like to share my nitpicky side on what might be that "unexplored potential" with Poison Ivy . I always thought of Poison Ivy as Batman's conflicted love interest. I reviewed some Batman: The Animated Series episodes. "Pretty Poison" has Poison Ivy kissing Batman and somehow enjoying it. The show could've used a possible ongoing love triangle between Poison Ivy and Catwoman for Batman . There should've been episodes where Batman helps Poison Ivy (and vice versa). My own take on "Harley and Iv...

Poison Ivy In "Eternal Youth" Could've Been Given Some Badly-Needed Character Development

Image
Batman: The Animated Series has some overrated characters . One of them is Poison Ivy . Yes, I'm talking about the character whose villainy is similar to Catwoman. Both are anti-villains who have the potential to become anti-heroes. Poison Ivy aims to save the environment but has some radical means. It could've created some interesting dialogue. Why stick only with Catwoman when Poison Ivy was meant to be her plant counterpart?  The episode "Eternal Youth" had some potentia,l BUT it seemed too stuck with some silliness. The episode had some vibes with the Batman 1966 where Poison Ivy has two henchwomen -- sadly these two remain guest henchmen! Both Lily and Violet could've provided her some development! Rewatching the episodes gave me more insights as an adult. Poison Ivy mentions seeking to get evildoers punished. Poison Ivy reluctantly gave Batman the antidote in exchange for the rare rose that could've gone extinct. It could be interesting that Poison Ivy m...

Poison Ivy's Wasted Potential In "Batman: The Animated Series"

Image
I read through Screen Rant's overrated characters in Batman: The Animated Series . I'm going to highlight one of my favorite villains -- Poison Ivy! A favorite villain doesn't necessarily have to be Pure Evil. Some of them can be potentially anti-heroic because of their anti-villain status. Pamela Lillian Isley aka Poison Ivy is in that category. Here's something that Screen Rant says about Poison Ivy as a character: Poison Ivy had a fantastic debut in Batman: The Animated Series “Pretty Poison,” establishing her as a vengeful eco-terrorist with a personal vendetta against Harvey Dent. However, as the series progressed, she became more of a one-note character whose motivations rarely evolved or were expounded upon in any great detail. Considering her intentions are fairly noble compared to other Batman: TAS villains, she could have been a far more compelling character. However, Poison Ivy was often reduced to using plant-based gimmicks without much emotional depth. Unli...

"Batman: The New Advetures" As That Meh Follow-Up To The Iconic "Batman: The Animated Series"

Image
After rewatching some episodes of Batman: The Animated Series -- I feel the need to be that annoying nitpicker again. Every company has its own history of bad decisions -- even those that made a lot of beloved franchises anywhere around the world. Warner Bros. was responsible for many DC animated adaptations and owns DC Comics -- explaining why the Joker became an easy guest character in Mortal Kombat 11 . Now, I'd like to think of the RIGHTFULLY SHORT-LIVED The New Batman Adventures . Some changes were made such as Dick Grayson becoming Nightwing and a new Robin was introduced namely Tim Drake. I wonder if that decision was trying something new or what? Unlike its predecessor which had better art -- new art was used presumably to keep it consistent with Superman: The Animated Series . This drop in animation is much more than what G.I. Joe did during the DIC seasons. I may have preferred Sunbow over DiC. Sunbow got the G.I. Joe license and had Toei work on it. DiC's art was way...

Wishful Thinking For "Batman: TAS" Episode "Harley And Ivy" As A Tale Of Two Women Spurned

Image
All before wokeness got worse -- I'd like to point to the episode "Ivy and Harley" in Batman: The Animated Series . I always had a thing for Joker and Harley (which I believe brought out the best development out of the Joker) or I've always had shipped Batman x Poison Ivy . I even felt that Batman: The Animated Series could've created a  love triangle between Catwoman and Poison Ivy for Batman ! As I rewatched the series on Netflix (which will be there for a limited time) --  I rewatched "Ivy and Harley". Harley has a toxic romantic relationship with the Joker. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker even hints that Harley and Joker had at least one child decades prior. I was looking at the angle of the two women. Harley had a bad breakup with the Joker. Meanwhile, I feel that Poison Ivy's toxic infatuation with Batman (pun intended) could've been brought up. The episodes "Pretty Poison "and "Eternal Youth" point to Poison Ivy'...

Missing Potential: "Batman Beyond" Could've Given Batman And Catwoman That Loving Old Couple Ending

Image
I remember watching Batman (1966) and the short-lived The Adventures of Batman . After that, there's Batman: The Animated Series . Okay,  I'm in the minority of Batman x Poison Ivy shippers . However, Batman: TAS started to show signs that Batman and Catwoman could get together. As an adult, seeing the cast of Batman (1966) can be amusing. I remember not liking the late Eartha Kitt's portrayal of Catwoman in contrast to Julie Newmar. The late Adam West still remains iconic to me. Even with every new Batman that popped out in every new Batman movie - I believe Adam did the best portrayal. I still admire Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer. George Clooney probably got tarnished in that awful Batman and Robin movie. Seeing Adam even in his older age - he's aged so well. Adam, like his character Batman, was a player . What could've been done was this. In Birds of Prey - Batman and Catwoman even had a daughter named Helena Kyle Wayne aka Huntress. The DCAU could've given B...

Batman/Catwoman Crack Pairing AKA Dating Catwoman Trope

Image
Batman had several love interests such as Talia (whom he had a child with in many variations), Batgirl, but it seems none is more iconic and bandwagoned as CATWOMAN. I watched the 1966 Batman live-action TV series. The late Adam West portrayed Batman and Julie Newmar played Catwoman. The two are enemies while Catwoman has an on/off crush on Batman. Catwoman's often depicted as someone with a Villainous Crush on Batman. Unlike the other villains, Catwoman gradually walked into the path of being an anti-villain to even becoming an anti-hero. Batman: The Animated Series presented sexual tensions between Batman and Catwoman. What disappointed me was that there was no love triangle between Catwoman and Poison Ivy for Batman . Poison Ivy kissed Batman the first time they met. Catwoman also kissed Batman. The show decided to go for Batman and Catwoman instead. People by now should realize that I prefer to ship Batman and Poison Ivy. I even think that Poison Ivy may make a good stepmother ...

My Fantasy Of Poison Ivy As Damian's Stepmother/Adoptive Mother

Image
Watching Batman: The Animated Series - there was one episode where Poison Ivy supposedly settled down AND had stepchildren. However, the marriage was fake. Poison Ivy created male replicas and Dr. Caryle's real children were DAUGHTERS. Poison Ivy mentioned that her immune system can't let her have children. Whether or not that was more than Status Dependent on Version may vary. However, I have another crazy idea born from that episode.  My own alternative path is pretty much this. Poison Ivy reforms for good and figures out that both Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same. I would look at the angle that if she can't have natural children due to her hyperactive immune system - why not be Damian's stepmother and even ADOPT HIM? Poison Ivy has a soft spot for children like when she took care of the orphans. Have Bruce and Pamela settle down. Pamela chooses to adopt Damian and genuinely loves him like a son. This might give Pamela a possible redemption arc as Damian's step...

Imagining Bella Thorne As Poison Ivy

Image
I was doing a bit of some nostalgic look back. Batman: The Animated Series (Batman: TAS) was one of my guilty pleasures. It would be a worthy competitor to X-Men: The Animated Series (X-Men: TAS)  in the year 1992. If I had a crush on Jean Grey (and I eventually wished I were Cyclops BUT I found myself as Wolverine with a complicated love life). Another crush I had (aside from Catwoman) was Poison Ivy. Just watching Batman: TAS' episode "Pretty Poison" had me shipping Batman and Poison Ivy for a weird reason. I just wish Poison Ivy would obsess more over Batman. I felt that the two could've been potentially a crack couple. Heck, I'm still a shipper of Batman and Poison Ivy . I still feel plotlines of Poison Ivy betraying the other crooks because she's too in love with Batman are needed.  What truly amazed me though is the appearance of Bella Thorne matches that of Poison Ivy from the first season. Okay, Bella was born in 1997 and she was born MONTHS after the ...

My Thoughts On "Batman And Robin Adventures Issue 24: Touch Of Death"

Image
It can't be denied that I'm pretty much the   Batman x Poison Ivy shipper , right? I just feel like comic book series tend to get rebooted for too long. I guess that's why I decided to stop collecting comics since too many plots drag for too long such as Batman and Catwoman having their sexual tensions. Though, I felt that Poison Ivy might be the more ideal crack pairing. This comic book  has a plot which again, proves Poison Ivy has been more anti-villain than heroine. This comic book issue seems to put both Batman and Poison Ivy in some tension. The plot is a direct sequel to  "Toxic Shock" . Even Batman mentions it out loud. Poison Ivy does steal a plant but ends up saving the life of a person who has become toxic. There's some dilemma especially when Batman deals with some corrupt American government agents. Some corrupt government agents are trying to use some Amazonian boy with some disorder. Poison Ivy shows that she's got a good side unlike the oth...

My Short Childhood Phobia For Clowns And Jack Nicholson's Joker

Image
I could remember some of the worst short-term fears I had as a child was with clowns. I remembered how I would easily get scared of people in masks or by the Joker. Some people do get scared of mascots too when they were younger. Somebody might be crying while sitting on the lap of a Santa Claus mascot or being greeted by a Mickey Mouse mascot. Parents may have had a hard time trying to convince them that it's just a man in a suit. It would be weird (really) if a child enjoyed watching Mickey Mouse on television and getting scared of a Mickey Mouse mascot. In my case, it seems my initial fear of clowns was because of one portrayal of the Joker - the Batman (1989) film. Joker is known to be Batman's fiercest enemy, a fan-favorite villain, and may have inspired the Marvel villain Arcade. One thing worth noting is that it was the JOKER who killed Bruce Wayne's parents in this movie. It makes Joker old enough to Batman's father even if it seems that Joker is not that old in...

My Thoughts On "The Batman Adventures Issue 23: Toxic Shock"

Image
The Matt Signal There were some rare non-canon comic series based on some animated adaptations of comics. X-Men had one and it was independent of the mainline Marvel (which sucks now). Another 1990s classic, Batman: The Animated Series  had a comics spin-off. I was able to buy one of the comics where Poison Ivy controlled Robin. Again, I always felt like the kisses should be for Batman. Poison Ivy may be a villain but she's an anti-villain. I think Poison Ivy and Catwoman are both anti-heroines who are probably stuck in a bizarre love triangle . Batman marries Poison Ivy and risks getting scratched by Catwoman. Batman marries Catwoman and he's probably going to get poisoned by a jealous woman. This comic book issue " Toxic Shock " has Batman recruiting Poison Ivy (and has a weird ending) which the latter seeks the plant that caused trouble. Poison Ivy is in Arkham and Batman needs her help. Was it half-brained or what? Granted, Batman has had an on/off alliance with C...

My Own Weird Imagination Of Batman Marrying A Reformed Poison Ivy

Image
I can't deny that while Batman x Catwoman is rather popular - I'm still on the unpopular side of things with Batman x Poison Ivy. The Injustice games also had an ending of Catwoman supposedly marrying Batman after Brainiac was beaten. Now, I think about how I have a weird storyline brewed up. This would totally be a weird one so brace for it. I'm really thinking about how my own imagination created. Poison Ivy is more of an anti-villain who, with the right influence, can be reformed. I was wondering if she was created to be the third wheel in the already ongoing Batman vs. Catwoman pairing.  One storyline in The Batman Adventures (which is based on Batman: The Animated Series ) presents an uneasy alliance between Batman and Poison Ivy to save an environmentalist. Both of them work together (for once) even if Batman and Poison Ivy have trust issues. I think about how the comics should've done some sexual tensions between them even more. Poison Ivy did joke about Batman...

A Catwoman-Poison Ivy-Batman Love Triangle?

Image
I admit that I'm no longer into comics for the reason that there are so many reboots, and retcons, and the stories don't seem to end. Just think about The Twelve storyline in X-Men for one. Though, I think watching some cartoons here and there back then was another. One of my fondest memories was Batman: The Animated Series which the second season's art JUST SUCKED. WTF Warner Bros.? Anyway, there are some shipping battles in which Batman may be Archie while Catwoman is Betty and Poison Ivy is Veronica. I may be an Archie x Betty shipper but I'm a Batman x Poison Ivy shipper . Batman can be put in a real rock-and-hard place situation as Catwoman and Poison Ivy are considered Batman's awkward love interests. The 1966 Batman show starring the late Adam West had Catwoman as an on/off interest for Batman. Catwoman (Julie Newmar, later Eartha Kitt for some reason) makes seductive gestures at Batman either to gain advantage or because she's got a contradictory crush o...

I'm A Batman X Poison Ivy Fan Shipper

Image
Sime fans kind of like the Batman x Catwoman as an anti-hero x anti-villain pairing. I'm not a comics purist and personally, I'm getting upset at a decline of the whole comic industry. I welcome certain changes if they do good. I remembered watching Batman: The Animated Series and I freaking started a rather weird trend of Batman x Poison Ivy shipping which caused me to think about how I wish Poison Ivy-related episodes were written. I can't forget the way I started to ship them in "Pretty Poison" and "Eternal Youth". I thought about making Poison Ivy have an unhealthy interest in Batman which puts her at odds with the villains. Think about Enchantress' villainous crush on Thor (and I confess, I tend to ship them in spite of their differences). One of my ideas would involve Poison Ivy actually offering Batman more than once a chance to be her ally or even her would-be consort even to the point she may want to get rid of him (but it grieves ...

Batman as Frollo, Poison Ivy as Esmeralda

Image
I always had my fetish for a Batman/Poison Ivy fan pairing of sorts where Batman must struggle against a lust on Poison Ivy. Batman is no self-righteous villain like Dom Claude Frollo. The whole setting would have Batman struggling with his role as a punisher of the wicked while Poison Ivy has truly cast a spell upon him. So it had me thinking what if Poison Ivy's kiss on Batman actually had cast a spell so dangerous, Batman fears the end of him has come because he's now lusting after Poison Ivy? Batman is a vigilante and anti-hero. He keeps the city safe. He would be a righteous version of Dom Claude Frollo, but a much younger version of the villain. Like Frollo, he has fallen into the dilemma of falling for a woman he believes would bring to his doom. He is now in a dilemma unlike any before and it's Poison Ivy. Just one kiss was enough to bring Batman to a serious psychological dilemma. I can view Poison Ivy as a twisted version of Esmeralda. Esmeralda in the novel...

Poison Ivy in Batman: The Animated Series

Image
Most incarnations of Poison Ivy are basically disappointing, even later ones just make her more ugly than gorgeous, season one of BTAS.  Just what you needed a really hot redhead that makes you really see a seductively dangerous villain.  I'll just be honest I'm pretty much a Batman/Poison Ivy fan shipper or should I call it crack pairing because a relationship can never work between them. So her premiere was in "Pretty Poison" where she seduced Harvey Dent and had the intention to murder him, which later developed an enmity with Two-Face who used to be Harvey Dent.  I just thought her relationship to Batman there was something when she flirted with him.  I guess she really had a crush on him but too bad it wasn't explored quite well.  I thought she was really attractive but deadly. In "Eternal Youth" I thought it was another of her schemes that was pretty much having noble intentions but done extremely.  The episode presented her more as a noble vil...

My Re-imagination of Poison Ivy

Image
I am pretty disappointed with Poison Ivy's later characterizations or even designs.  For how do I redesign her story? For my reimagining of the character, what if she actually knew Bruce Wayne and was his frequent infatuation instead of Selina Kyle who becomes Catwoman?  I had my thoughts that I'm a guilty Batman/Poison Ivy fan shipper even if it's just totally crack and incompatible.  But I could tone down some of her personalities making her more of a misguided vigilante, an anti-heroine and has a hard time getting along other villains except Harley for some time out of real, genuine sympathy.  And in the whole duration of her character, I just imagining her as an anti hero. Which in my fic, Poison Ivy doesn't join any of the Injustice Gang or related ones, she rather works alone with her crusade to bring nature back to its course as well as "save humanity".  She has become a vigilante that actually has taken care of those who recklessly destroy natur...
