Reviewing "The Twelve" In X-Men And Classic Apocalypse's Modus Operandi

I felt like revisiting an old X-Men comic book plot called "The Twelve". It was here that Apocalypse recklessly tossed a rather convoluted plan. Apocalypse is known to be a master planner of sorts. It didn't look like he infected Nathan Summers with the TO Virus just out of spite. It looked like Apocalypse wanted to test if Nathan could become his next vessel -- as evidenced in "The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix". As I looked back, there was the HYPE and the INTENDED OUTCOME.

Why do I think that "The Twelve" plot was a poorly calculated scheme that gave an unsatisfying outcome

Apocalypse's plot in "The Twelve" was a quest for godhood. However, looking at some of Apocalypse's choices, it can be seen that there's A LOT OF BAD CIRCUITRY going on, such as:

  • Magneto was experiencing power fluctuations (probably due to Professor X mind wiping him and the Onslaught crisis), which could poorly balance out with Polaris' geomagnetic powers.
  • Magneto and Polaris were basically an estranged father/daughter pair.
  • The problem of trying to unify the conflicting forces of Sunfire, Iceman, and Storm given that even Sunfire and Iceman were of extreme temperatures.
  • Bishop is a man out of time, which may have contributed to the slowdown of the engine. Pairing him up with Mikhail Rasputin meant the time/space continuum flow was totally out of place.
  • The family unit in itself was messy. Yes, Cyclops is the FATHER but Jean Grey ISN'T THE MOTHER. Jean Grey would be registered as Cable's AUNT instead of MOTHER -- since Madelyne Pryor was the CLONE of Jean Grey. Cable is also a man who returned in time -- now old enough as his paternal grandfather ,Christoper Summers! Not to mention, Cable has been using MUCH OF HIS POWERS to contain the TO Virus as a compromise!
  • Given Bishop is from the DOFP timeline and Cable raised in the Askani timeline -- this creates DOUBLE THE FRICTION!
Do I need to specify that Apocalypse would've also recognized that Nate Grey wasn't just a man out of the 616 timeline? Apocalypse would've been Nate "unfit" like Askani Apocalypse did during the "Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix" with Stryfe. Askani Apocalypse was careless but as said, he would've recognized Nate Grey as a clone by then in the present. Nate Grey was a GLASS CANNON OF SORTS. Apocalypse would've deemed the body unfit to house his evil essence!

The whole process SLOWED DOWN the merger. Putting Cable and Bishop into the Twelve machine would've caused NOT ONE but TWO FRICTIONS. That means all the other nine energies transmitted to the Living Monolith were slow. All the other frictions would seem INSIGNIFICANT compared to what Bishop and Cable have caused. That made Apocalypse's process of merging with Nate Grey SUPER SLOW INDEED! That's why Cyclops was able to intervene -- giving the anticlimactic part where Cyclops merged with Apocalypse instead

Also, even if Apocalypse merged with Nate Grey, the results would be a walking contradiction. Every bit of power Apocalypse seeks to possess, will work against his new body. In short, Cyclops saved not just the world from a walking contradiction but also Apocalypse himself!

What I think Apocalypse would've done instead IMHO

Sure, X-Men: The Animated Series was toned down as the comics had too much violence. Plots like Angel losing his wings had to be removed. Instead, Angel was made a mutant who wanted to be a human before he became Archangel. However, I thought of "The Twelve" could've been better off like in the plan of "Beyond Good and Evil" -- where Apocalypse planned to use psychic mutants to rewrite history itself. The same could've been done with "The Twelve". However, I'd like to propose a better measure that would create a more effective measurement!

Instead, I thought of the plan that would create a reality bomb (like in "Beyond Good and Evil") with the following:
  • The Living Monolith as the core.
  • Magneto and Polaris as the father/daughter magnetic poles.
  • I would have Magma in the place of Sunfire. This is so Magma represents the lithosphere, Iceman represents the hydrosphere, and Storm represents the atmosphere. The real purpose of the conflict here is to create a powerful explosion. The magnetic poles would help direct the last.
  • Bishop would be replaced with Professor X's wayward son Legion. Legion represents chaos while Mikhail Rasputin manipulates time/space in a more orderly way. No time friction!
  • Professor X and Jean Grey will represent the unity of mentor and student powers of the mind.
  • Cyclops and Havok would be a more cleaner version of the Summers' bloodline. Cyclops is a kinetic force, while Havok is uncontrollable plasma bursts. The two have often combined their powers to create devastating outcomes -- such as Mr. Sinister's long absence!
How will Nate Grey work for the 13th mutant? The answer is simple. Nate Grey is an AoA Refugee and an anomaly. The Twelve Mutants I gathered will be used to gather pure 616 energies that will effectively fill up the Living Monolith. All 616 energies would be directed into Nate Grey to create a forced containment. Nate Grey COULDN'T handle the 616 energies due to them being 12 vs. 1 -- creating a volatile glass cannon explosion! The Living Monolith will overload, he will break out, and Nate Grey will try to stop him. However, the energies would transfer into the Living Monolith as intended. It's not a fatal miscalculation

This would be the best way to start Apocalypse's master plan to rewrite time and space itself! Afte all, Apocalypse didn't have the need YET to change bodies in that plot! Apocalypse would never change bodies unless absolutely necessary! This would create the Ages of Apocalypse, by which Cable could actually use his status as a Man Out of Time to defeat Apocalypse in this messy time warp. This would also mean Cable would be able to defeat Apocalypse without the "Search for Cyclops" storyline.
