Why I don't read comics anymore these days is because of HOW LONG it can take to reveal something. Call it the Peter Pan syndrome. I thought about another long-standing rumor I believed in the 1990s -- that was Polaris was indeed Magneto's daughter. It wasn't officially declared until 2003 via a DNA test. That's what I don't like about the revolving door of writers. The writers tend to come up with a ridiculous retcon vs. a retcon that works. For example, the revelation that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as Magneto's lost children works vs. the dumb retcon that hit in 2016. The same could've been done in the 1980s with Polaris is as she should've been Magneto's ELDEST DAUGHTER ANYA.
I always thought about the fact that more often than not, Scarlet Witch and Polaris have a certain resemblance. Quicksilver had been drawn to look like Magneto than his ADOPTIVE PARENTS. Sure, not everyone who looks alike is related. What made me think about how to link Polaris to the twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. IMHO the 2003 retcon that revealed that Polaris was Magneto's lovechild wasn't too well-written. I always felt that Polaris' magnetic powers might've fit "better" if she was indeed Magneto's daughter Anya.
What I felt could've been done with the revelation of Anya in the fire was this. It could've formed a a more powerfu moment if Magneto thought his daughter died. Instead. Polaris managed to use her magnetism (triggered by the danger around her) to save her life but fell into an amnesiac trauma. Polaris, who was once born Anya Lensherr, was now adopted by a childless couple and got renamed as LORNA DANE. Anya's adoption and amnesia would be an interesting plot point. Magneto wouldn't be recognizing not just Wanda but also LORNA as having been his children -- born to his wife Magda who fled out of terror.
The story could've worked itself into "The Twelve," especially with what Magneto and Polaris couldv'e represented. I found the story of "The Twelve" to be a mess and antithetical to how Classic Apocalypse would've acted. I felt like Magneto and Polaris could've presented the power of the magnetic poles as father/daughter. Polaris already had some mental instability that could be easily explained by a traumatic childhood. Instead, it had to be AFTER THE POORLY WRITTEN TWELVE STORYLINE. A lot of potential could've been done such as how Polaris would the be OLDER SISTER of the twins instead.
That's what happens when there's a revolving door of writers! You have a lot of interesting storylines that end up getting wasted!
