Protoman (Blues)- He was supposedly the prototype robot for the first generation robots that could think and decide on its own. However he was quite unstable so he was put away. Dr. Wily stole the faulty prototype and turned him into Protoman to counter Megaman. While he at first worked with Dr. Wily but by Megaman 3's end (he appeared as a sub-boss in some levels of that game), he defected sides and chose to side with Megaman. Sort of like Metalder's Top Gunner. However it's revealed that he could soon erupt anytime because he was a defective unit. How he died is still unknown.
Bass (Forte)- After losing Protoman, Dr. Wily managed to create another evil Megaman in the form of Bass and a dog named Treble (Gospel in Japan, strangely he's no good news!). While he seemed to be a Maverick hunter at first, he was later found to be Dr. Wily's latest plot to destroy Megaman! Compared to his master, he is far less despicable and a more honorable fighter choosing to end his rivalry with Megaman one on one. He's more like Vegeta, smug, arrogant and very impulsive. He was playable in the Megaman Power Battle games and in Rockman and Forte. In Rockman and Forte, he stood still while doing rapid shots at different directions, sort of like how Axl will later be in Megaman X7-8. In fact, I'm even thinking he could be Axl.
Zero- Okay it's pretty not surprising that we found out in Megaman X4 that he was really Dr. Wily's final counter Megaman. Before Megaman became an obsolete model and the X model was born (but it seemed like that both Megaman and X were the same person). Sigma was interested to use this new generation Maverick, who was most likely created to succeed Dr. Wily in the case of his death and lead a new generation of Mavericks. He contained the evil energy in Megaman 8 and after he and Sigma fought, Sigma got infected and the effect may have rendered him no longer Dr. Wily's ideal heir to the throne making Sigma take over his destiny. Talk about ironic! Instead, he became partners with Megaman X in their battles while fearing he could go Maverick anytime. Also he's died quite a number of times in X and X5 while he was rebuilt in X2 and X6. To be honest, I enjoy playing as him more than X. Why? Unlike X who has to charge up the buster, his sword is one pretty nasty weapon which he uses in the place of a buster!
