Unpopular Opinion: Why I Currently Think Judd Lynn's Just Overhyped By Power Rangers Fans

Image
I don't know but I've noticed - the more I watch Super Sentai   - the more I think Power Rangers isn't my cup of tea. Most of my dislike for the Power Rangers franchise comes with the knowledge that it's NOT a bootleg or a fake. Calling the Power Rangers franchise as such is just PLAIN STUPID. However, I've had some issues with the Power Rangers franchise such as the whole Zordon era, the tendency to cut down the number of episodes (and several series failed to hit their potential IMHO), the Disney era, and the Nickelodeon era. Though one person seems to get overhyped and it's Judd Lynn. I feel like people talk too much about him (and Yasuko Kobayashi) that other writers such as Hirohisa Soda tend to get overshadowed for some time.  I feel like Lynn, unlike Kobayashi, is just overhyped. I felt Lynn did some cool stuff but we know cultural differences. I could agree that Engine Sentai Go-Onger is bad (though I initially enjoyed it) . I'm now thinking about ...

Power Rangers Head Writers and How They Fare for Me

Image
Power Rangers had a group of writers which are... Douglas Sloan- The overused writer for all MMPR seasons, Zeo and Turbo.  So far, he's no Hirohisa Soda with his writing and he's just plain.  One may consider his worst moves in Power Rangers for me are villain decaying Goldar, not keeping Lord Zedd's scary personality after marrying Rita (which was inconsistent with the fact Lord Zedd became more dangerous at the same time) and the Dear John letter in Zeo.  He was also in the Disney era for the decent season PR Ninja Storm and the overrated PR Dino Thunder. Judd Lynn is basically the more daring writer who brings new stuff.  He brings character conflict, recycles stuff from Super Sentai series which I believe he is a Hirohisa Soda fan and in extension a Yasuko Kobayashi fan, doesn't copy too much from the source and really just about everything.  I would call him the Toshiki Inoue of Power Rangers considering how many deaths he wrote during PR in Space (hig...

Judd Lynn and PR Finales

Image
If Toshiki Inoue has usually bad endings Judd Lynn has them too.  And here's some of his endings: Power Rangers in Space The season is a huge mess and we know it.  Yet Judd Lynn brought in some character development and conflict into Power Rangers!  He made Power Rangers more serious!  Took some time before he entered!  But one can point out ALL the stupidity the finale has.  First you have the rather bland confrontation of Andros to Karone.  After Andros breaks Zordon's tube because of the latter's request we do see some anti-climatic ends.  Divatox just becomes good, Lord Zedd becomes human then dances with his now human wife Rita, the rest of the villains dissolve while others are left hanging.  And then the ending just leaves everything hanging. Power Rangers Lost Galaxy Another of his better seasons but the ending is pretty where you get some huh.  So Trakeena acquires a new form, by standard in either Super Sentai or Pow...

How to Write Power Rangers Judd Lynn Style

Image
Here's how to write Power Rangers, Judd Lynn style: 1.) Not really copying too much from the source. Judd Lynn has originality in some of his works like how PR in Space differs so much from Megaranger, Lost Galaxy differs so much from Gingaman, Time Force actually had potential with its mutant/human war (which later, Kamen Rider Faiz had that plot). However he seems to have a habit of copying from past Sentai works instead. PR in Space had Astronema as a Shiima based villain, PR Lost Galaxy felt a little of Flashman while Trakeena felt like Ahames in Changeman in terms of cruelty. Lightspeed Rescue kept its rescue theme but removed the whole family theme. 2.) Darker and edgier. He tends to write darker works though because he's a Power Rangers writer, one might consider this. When he took over PR Turbo's second half, things started to get more serious. In PR in Space, one main protagonist namely Zordon met his end though he did allow Astronema to return back to her old...

Bruce Kalish and Power Rangers

Image
Before Power Rangers, Bruce Kalish was actually a great talent in his genre as he was the writer of the Incredible Hulk cartoon or The Famous Jett Jackson, and he's the writer of Aaron Stone.  However when it comes to Power Rangers, he's got ups and down and perhaps too much unfair hatred.  Now trying to look at his work is pretty much either a hit or miss... just like Toshiki Inoue before and after Kamen Rider Agito. During the time he wrote SPD that series was pretty much hit or miss.  I guess it's just my extreme favoritism for Dekaranger that makes me dislike the show.  For starters, I tend to complain how much Jack slacks off a lot or Sky is overly whining about how he's "Mr. Perfect" more than Hoji does.  I should probably start with Sky whining about how he should have been the Red SPD Ranger to which he becomes quite a braggart, too annoying (and Hoji never got up to that point) or that unlike Hoji, he doesn't listen to Bridge thinking he's...
