Is It Me Or Does Disney's Belle (1991) Look Like.. CINDY CRAWFORD?

Image
It's time for some nostalgic 1990s. Right now, it's no secret that I hate most of the Disney bland live action remakes. Heck, I have even ZERO INTENTION to watch the upcoming Snow Woke movie. Okay, but I enjoyed the Aladdin live action remake -- to a certain extent! I have nothing against Emma Watson as an actress but she wasn't the right person to be Belle IMHO.  I was making comparisons of Kaia Gerber looking like Belle. What I noticed or never noticed was that Belle (1991) kinda looks like an animated Cindy Crawford. The same kind of face model was also used for Quest for Camelot by Warner Bros. I believe it's a coincidence like certain celebrities from one country after the other -- have a lookalike. I don't think Disney's animators had Cindy in mind when they made Belle. However, there's the possibility that they did. With Kaia Crawford Gerber lacking her mother's mole -- she does look closer to Belle!  It's probably just a coincidence. It's...

My Own Psychological Analysis Of Gaston's Obsession With Marrying Belle

Image
Okay, it's been five years since the 2017 remake of Beauty and the Beast took place. I felt it was lifeless and I don't think a prettier actress would've helped such a COMMERCIALIZED remake. Though, a rewatch of the 1991 Disney version made me think a lot of stuff. Belle is pretty but lacks sex appeal. I find the Bimbettes who obsess over Gaston to be hotter because they're all sexier than Belle. So, why does Gaston go after Belle instead? Though Gaston did make a severe miscalculation into thinking Belle will accept his proposal - a bit of analysis of the hunter in him as to why Belle is his preferred bride. A look at Belle's character is this. She's more than just a pretty face. Though, two things may easily be more noticeable for Belle. Beast could only say Belle's that attractive since he was under a curse and no human ever stepped foot inside the castle. Gaston could see every girl in the village. There's the Bimbettes who are hot blondes. Why does ...

A Beautiful Desperation Disney Could've Tried Last 2017

Image
Since it's December and there's the term Disneycember - I just want to throw in a bit of a joke right now. I always feel the return of Palpatine is simply asking the evilest Sith lord to bail them out of possible criticism. I also feel that Disney now has a hotter Mulan just as another desperate attempt to bail them out. So, I'd like to throw in a bit of a crude joke to make fun of the two situations. They could've done it last 2017. While I did write about casting Emma Roberts as Belle  - I just want to divert it on. Roberts is more or less a live version of Belle complete from the pretty face to rather being flat in some way. Since, Liu Yi Fei is actually a way hotter Mulan - I thought Disney could've thought of having a hotter Belle. My pick would be Gracie Dzienny as Belle. It's because she's not only pretty but she's also really sexy - she would have made Belle way hotter than she was in 1991. It was a beautiful desperation Disney could've pu...

How I'd Remake Beast To A Certain Extent

Image
As much as I find the Beauty and the Beast (2017) to be really bland in terms of acting but it did add some backstory like why Beast turned out like that. It was revealed in the 2017 version that well Beast's mother died at a young age and he had a selfish father. So I'd assume that this selfish father died prior to the events of the movie. I thought it was a nice addition though I thought about trying to alter the curse's origin. Whether or not the Beauty and the Beast midquel should even be considered canon is somewhat debatable. I remembered the slight contradiction where he didn't dismiss her twice but only once prior to the curse. It does add some problems such as when was Chip born or was Beast really only eleven when the curse happened or was ten years an exaggeration? I wanted to even shorten the deadline for the curse. So if Belle is presumably 17 years old and Beast would be 20 going 21 -- then I thought about what about if the curse happened to him in h...

Belle's Unfabulous Life

Image
As I did rewatch the Beauty and the Beast (2017) to make yet another critique and wishful thinking -- it's clear that I wanted Emma ROBERTS and not Emma WATSON for Belle. I don't think it'd significantly change things -- I thought that you needed someone who's pretty and doesn't have much sex appeal to be Belle. Roberts fits all that appearance-wise! So what's my reinventing of Belle? I did write about my ideal remake with the ideal cast  -- now I thought about yet another wishful thinking of how Belle could've been carried out - by combining certain aspects of Addie Singer from Unfabulous into her. Unfabulous? Well that could be the tag word that Belle could have said in the poor provincial town. No need to really re-sing the song "Belle" for the beginning -- auto-tuning ANYONE isn't going to work either! My ideal opening is where Belle can be seen helping her father home (like the 1946 movie) and gets a visit from Gaston who wants to marry...

Belle And Beast Had Way Better Chemistry 26 Years Ago

Image
Newer is always better? Not really! It had me thinking of why I tend to get negative about some modern remakes of many beloved animated classics. Right now, I even think about how Disney is already going for the worse and the whole movie last year -- Beauty and the Beast (2017) was no exception. Now it's time for a comparison of Belle and Beast and the chemistry they had together in both films.  I decided to rewatch the bland remake just to make this article. I thought about how much I actually thought of it as my favorite fairytale -- how a prince trapped in the appearance of a monster (while still maintaining his human biology) and having to have someone love him and be loved in return was my fantasy. Now how does it fair in 2017 vs. 1991? I would have to say that the chemistry of 2017 is just down flat -- I can't even decide which is worse between the 2018 version of Meteor Garden or the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast in terms of bland chemistry between the leadin...

Luke Evans' Gaston Is A Muscular Jafar

Image
It's been a year since the Beauty and the Beast film and aside from my most petty complain that Emma Watson ain't hot enough to be Belle -- I thought I could talk about casting Luke Evans as Gaston felt funny. First, Gaston is supposedly good-looking but instead, we get a Gaston who seriously looks like the lovechild of Gaston and Jafar's sister Nasira (from the video game, Aladdin in Nasira's Revenge) instead of Gaston. If you remembered The Secret of the Hunchback -- there's Frollo here who is the high sheriff of Paris. This version of really Gaston body-wise but ends up having Jafar's facial features. Like Gaston, he's got a small sidekick similar to Lefou and he lusts after the beauty of the story. Oh, should I mention... Esmeralda in the said cartoon short -- looks like a cheaper version of Belle from Beauty and the Beast? She even dresses up like Belle. I have to admit, Evans appearance made me think, "Jafar is that you?" when ...

Wishful Thinking: My Own Reimagined Live Action Disney's Beauty And The Beast

Image
I decided to rewatch both the Beauty and the Beast (1991) and Beauty and the Beast (2017)  and I still like the older one better in terms of charm. The 2017 had some background story but I felt it lacked the charm. So I decided to finally write down my crazy thoughts in the form of a literary critique with my own wishful thinking -- and that I even wished the remake happened and I wish it happened in 2011 and not 2017 to get a young cast that I wanted. First, I really thought about it maybe far too many times about why I thought Emma Watson was their pick for Belle. Sure, she can do something else but I felt like Belle wasn't for that character. Instead, I thought about Emma Roberts as Belle at 20 years old. Okay, Belle may be actually 17 or something but I think Roberts would fit the role with her appearance. Plus, I think a Belle that's only 5'2 would be a "little more fitting" for the role of Belle. So what's my idea for Belle for my imagined remak...

I Watched Beauty And The Beast 2017 Version And I Can't Like This Blockbuster As Much As The Original

Image
As a person, I want to be critical about everything. I was excited to hear that a Beauty and the Beast remake was about to take place. It was going to be a success but I thought about my personal preference. You may want to grill me for this entry but I'm going to write it out anyway. So what's my thoughts? There were some improvements with the plot from the 1991 version for the 2017 version. It's like how Belle was seen to be an inventor herself or that the movie has a different interpretation of Gaston to avoid copying too much from the original. I thought about Emma Watson as Belle. I dunno is it me or does she lack the charm of the original aside from my stupid reason that Watson is nowhere near as hot as the cartoon character. I could talk about how Belle's character showed her as someone who's passing her knowledge. I think I couldn't accept Watson's lack of charm. There was something about Belle that made her more balanced in the original ani...

To Watch Or Not To Watch: The Beauty And The Beast Live Remake For 2017

Image
I remembered watching the Beauty and the Beast movie by Disney several times as a child. I enjoyed the original and the remastered version. 1991 was the year the original came out and there was the remastered version which included the song "Human Again". After 26 years a new Beauty and the Beast movie is coming out. Knowing how Disney had changed a lot during the late 90s up to present I've had a love/hate relationship with Disney. I couldn't even stand how they handled Power Rangers and now Marvel and Star Wars.  I'd like to give my early thoughts on Emma Watson playing Belle. Granted, I don't really think of her to be super pretty but sometimes you don't need a super pretty lady to play Belle. She's sort of pretty but not all that hot. I think a not so attractive Belle might be a good thing. In the past, I always thought of Belle only on the outside. No joke, I thought Belle in her cartoon form was extraordinarily attractive. Maybe casting he...

What I Think Of Casting Emma Watson As Belle

Image
I thought about "What took it so long for Disney to have a Beauty and the Beast live action film?" I was pretty much irritated by how Disney went downhill with how Power Rangers ended up getting worse under their run (not that it hasn't gotten worse after Mr. Krabs got the rights back either), so I want to give some thoughts on Emma Watson as Belle. So maybe, she's not really that pretty for me but casting a British woman as the French woman Belle would probably make more sense.  While I wouldn't call her the "most beautiful woman ever" (and that's always an exaggeration) but playing Belle might work. She's got the appearance and she's European. Belle is European and she's got brown hair. She's not exactly all that pretty but I think she'll do. I'm not a fan of her but I'd like to see the live version of the movie myself.

Gaston's Lust for Belle Led to His Downfall!

Image
One of the biggest lust in Disney aside from Jafar to Jasmine (which was gross considering he was old enough to be her father), I thought was Gaston to Belle.  It's not just mere infatuation - Gaston is a sexist pervert that would have had dark overtimes especially when lusts after Belle.  What's his reason of wanting to marry Belle?  It's because she's the most beautiful girl in town (according to his eyes anyway).  Still, it's plain lust. So I thought did he consider Belle's beauty was just a shadow of who she was?  He set up his marriage ceremony even before he was sure Belle would marry him.  Although he is presented as a boorish man but he's not within any cunning.  He wouldn't be a champion hunter if he didn't have his cunning.  He wasn't going to let Belle get away that easily especially he wanted her.  Although chances hare, he might soon dump her when she's going to reach middle age.  Of course, Gaston though he has his cunni...

Why Belle is My Favorite Disney Princess?

Image
Belle, there's no doubt for me she's Disney's finest but... one can consider beyond her outward appearance.  In fact, what makes her unique is that she doesn't even flaunt over her appearance at all unlike Gaston.  Now for my reasons why I love her as a character: Belle is more than just a beauty, she is a brain.  Well I'd settle for a plain looking girl with her personality though.  But the fact she reads a lot of stuff, makes her better than most of the villagers or those who want her for her looks.  For one, her personality shines greater than her appearance. She cares about her father and still believes in being submissive without tolerating bullies.  She gave herself up for her father's freedom and she ended up changing the castle. Gaston is basically a male chauvinistic pig and nobody should tolerate any form of chauvinism.  While she is definitely not physically stronger but she has the brains to make up for it.  She stands up agai...

Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast

Image
Ah Belle, I could still remember her in my fantasies and her impression as a character.  Unlike the novel where Gaston was absent, that of course was really her name.  Belle is Beauty in French.  Now for what she was... I thought she is my ideal girl inside out.  She's pretty, sexy, smart and kind which makes her a hard catch but at the same time is she just a fantasy?  So for me, she is Disney's most gorgeous drawn fictional woman to which she is easily attention catching. What makes her stand out is that as a heroine, she's no damsel in distress and she's pretty witty especially in dealing with her really bad suitor Gaston who lusts after her beauty.  Instead of being portrayed as a defenseless woman, she can stand out to Gaston with her wits.  For Gaston, she is nothing more than a lust object and to be the mother of his sons, which is going to result to an abusive marriage.  So far, she really knows how to outsmart an otherwise not-so-smart...

Remembering Disney's Beauty and the Beast

Image
For me, if there was one movie that really well captured my attention it was Beauty and the Beast.  I bought the DVD edition which actually revealed a lot of times the film was shelved.  And some research actually had these elements brought from the book like the Beast's curse as a result of his unkind heart in his younger years and another, Belle's name was really Belle in the novels. Belle's story was altered yet again.  Rather than give her two rude sisters, she's the only child.  Her character has become a wide reader, my ideal type of girl to have.  Plus the fact she stands up against her pursuer Gaston makes her no damsel in distress most of the time, though at time she has become one.  I was thinking maybe Disney didn't have any idea what to do with Belle's sisters so they wrote them off into non-existence.  Was just thinking if Belle had sisters, maybe she is the fairest of them and they will both also try to get Gaston's attention like they...

Gaston's Role in Disney's Beauty and the Beast

Image
Gaston is another character I thought is pretty much complex.  At the film, he appears to display several personalities from being a boorish chauvinist to being a cunning person (considering he is a hunter) to his deadly lust for Belle.  As far as concerned, there hasn't been any mention of how old he is or Belle.  Then again, I am considering the fact Gaston could either be in late 20s or early 30s but that was never specified in film.  Considering he runs a tavern despite his low brain status, it can be assumed he's probably in his late 20s. So okay Belle is 17 years old in the fic, four years younger than Beast who was 21 which might make Gaston a pedophile then again marriages in the past happen that young and well, Gaston is possibly in his mid-20s so making him even older than Beast.  What I would like to bring up is Gaston's unhealthy lust for Belle even if they are very incompatible to start with.  First, Belle might be smoking hot but she's a co...

Gaston's Inspiration?

Image
Gaston was a character that NEVER existed in the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, he was merely an add-on. However after doing some miscellaneous research, it turns out to be there was some character way back that inspired his conception: Josette Day's Beauty and the Beast had Jean Marais portray the wicked Avenant (and strangely enough also the Prince :P). In contrast to Gaston, he is far more refined and dignified although he slapped one of Belle's sisters (who were removed in the Disney version). He was a rich man, not a hunter who was not very much self-obsessed compared to Gaston. I just wonder why they had to dumb down Avenant to this boorish guy?!  The only time he later displayed Avenant-like behavior was when he was already rejected by Belle. Other than that, he's just a dumbass villain. The only time he really showed intelligence was when he was going to fight Beast or when he decided to take advantage of Maurice. But for the rest, he's just a self-obse...
