Cole Could've Been Better Off As An Animal Protection Officer IMHO

Image
No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger caused me to think about Power Rangers Wild Force as well. I may no longer like Power Rangers,  but there were a few series that I could still like. Wild Force had some potentially better moments . I was looking at the deleted scene where Cole Evans was supposed to become a veterinarian. It feels weird considering he was raised in the jungle. However, Cole could use his ESP to know what animals need. That might've given him a free pass in superhero logic -- since his ESP is but Plot Armor. Cole becomes a veterinarian, but that scene was DELETED. However, there's a glimpse in Alyssa Enrile's table (and she's become a teacher) of Cole becoming a vet. Was it an error or what? I could imagine how messy wrapping up can be -- to the point that writing hiccups can happen in any franchise. Some revelations can be overly random and make you go, "HUH?!" Deleting Cole's scene as a doctor might be because "It just couldn't fit into the t...

Walter Emanuel Jones Clears Out The "Racist" Accusation In "Mighty Morphin'"

Image
I may not like Power Rangers BUT I understand why it exists. It's all part of INTERNATIONAL MARKETING! The accusation back then was that it was racist that Zack Taylor was the BLACK RANGER and an AFRICAN AMERICAN while Trini Kwan was an East Asian as a yellow ranger. Truth needs to be told that IT'S NOT RACIST. It only SEEMS RACIST but it isn't. In fact, neither character is portrayed as a negative stereotype regardless of their character flaws! Instead, the actor Walter Emanuel Jones gives this remark -- not especially on the MONTH of Himitsu Sentai Goranger's 50th year: "While some choose to seek out the negative, I’ve always believed in focusing on the positive," Jones wrote. "I understand the impulse to address what might be seen as cultural insensitivity, but calling it a 'mistake' would dismiss the impact it had on countless people around the world who found inspiration and representation in TV’s first Black superhero — morphin’ into none o...

Saban's Failed "Tenko And The Guardians of Magic"

Image
Who can remember 1990s cartoon shows that only lasted for one season? I remember watching some of those shows like Pro-Stars , The Wizard of Oz (by DIC), Dino Riders , Galtar and the Golden Lance , Conan and the Young Warriors (which was really TERRIBLE), etc. which never went for a whole year's run. Some of them get canceled before they could be concluded. Haim Saban tried to bring Princess Tenko (who's currently 65) to America. However, it didn't work.  The magician Princess Tenko showed up in three of Toei's Tokusatsu shows. Tenko showed up in episode 31 of Denzi Sentai Denziman . Tenko would later guest star as HERSELF rather than a made-up character. Tenko's guest role in Ucchu Keiji Gavan in episode 29 (and she also ran into Hirohisa Nakata aka Mason in Chodenshi Bioman ) and in episode 24 -- ALSO AS TENKO! In my case, the most memorable performance for me was in Gavan -- back when it was dubbed as Skyranger Gavan in Tagalog. The show premiered in 1995. It fai...

MMPR Reignition's Trying To Reignite The Franchise With Well... More MMPR?!

Image
Seriously, it's NOT the 1990s anymore! It's disappointing how Saban's repurchase in 2011 up to Hasbro's handling -- IS JUST DISAPPOINTING! I may refuse to join a certain group of people. However, my dislike for Power Rangers is due to the MISMANAGEMENT of the franchise. Mismanagement by a GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS! I looked at the news and IS THIS ALL THAT HAS TO BE OFFERED? It's back to Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers for the nth time! Come on, it was already the 30th anniversary of the first season in 2023.  I wrote this post because 2025 is the 50th anniversary of Himitsu Sentai Goranger . It's one thing if Power Rangers does Ranger History Lessons on anniversaries. I may have disliked Power Rangers Operation Overdrive but it had some potential. Sadly, Disney's really bad scheduling (and perhaps budget too) cut the show TOO SHORT by 32 episodes! However, the Corona Aurora plan had potential. I don't think it's a coincidence that Ohsama Sentai King...

The Power Rangers Clearance Sale?

Image
Is it a clearance sale of sorts? I feel it's really come to that. At first, I was excited to see what Hasbro could do with Power Rangers . However, it seems that neither Power Rangers Beast Morphers or Power Rangers Dino Fury could budge a thing. All they've been doing was, "Well, it's bring back Mighty Morphin' !" like Saban did in his second re-run. It's a shame really when companies that I grew up with become douche-y. One may have grown up with Adobe software but found out, "Oh! I have to pay this much to use Adobe software per month?" I have the feeling with Disney, Marvel (now owned by Disney), I even feel the same may be happening to Warner Bros., Capcom, and maybe even Bandai-Namco. Hasbro too? This might be a controversial move one way or another. Cast members do have the right to feel bad . This was what could be found last month: But the auction’s also reminded fans how Power Rangers hasn’t always been treated the best by its various o...

Still Promoting MMPR With Rita's Rewind?

Image
Is it me or is the Power Rangers franchise still stuck with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers nostalgia since 2011? It's already 2024 meaning 31 years have passed since 1993. We have to change certain stuff over the years like getting a new OS, switching to a new brand if that brand you're clinging to STARTS TO SUCK, and another  Mighty Morphin' hype for the NTH TIME? Like WUT? Wouldn't it be better if Power Rangers started to focus on moving forward rather than getting stuck in the 1990s? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Power Rangers is a KID'S SHOW. Let's say that the audience was seven years old in 1993. Let's add 31 years and we get 38 YEAR OLDS. Some of them may even be buying toys at Toys R Us for their children, godchildren, and nephews! Dryed Mangoez's author Jeff got it right when he said this: People of all ages will want to spend their money and/or their parents’ money on things they actually like and are invested in. When th...

Lord Zedd And Rita Repulsa As An Overused Fanservice Villainous Couple?

Image
Be forewarned that this article will be full of my biases. Let me remind people I used to like Power Rangers until I saw more of Super Sentai . I wrote an article pointing out what Power Rangers did better for the American audience . A recent article from Screen Rant talking about what might be an unpopular opinion or not. It's all about how Rita Repulsa's and Lord Zedd's final fates made the original incarnation look INSUFFICIENT . I'd say that was the fault of THE GREED because  Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers could've just wrapped up as planned. Lord Zedd could've been reserved for a totally different adaptation for Gosei Sentai Dairanger with an entirely new team of rangers. Instead, we know how Mighty Morphin' extended up to 150 episodes (three seasons), the story got overcarried into Power Rangers Zeo and got wrapped up in Power Rangers in Space . Space  may have saved the franchise but I found it incredibly hard to watch after watching  Dengeki Sent...

What Power Rangers Did Better Than Super Sentai (For The American Audience)

Image
I remember reading IGN's article on Super Sentai . I can understand why IGN thinks in that certain way -- even when I DISAGREE . There are cultural differences. I addressed that issue when I guest-wrote for JEFusion but decided to stop any form of guest writing for personal reasons. I'd like to address these stuff that would be better for the AMERICAN audience. It's because cultural differences play a crucial role in international marketing -- which includes LOCALIZATION of a product or REMAKING IT for a different demographic! Those are still considered ADAPTATIONS when it comes to business!  Power Rangers' has that good old diversity I wrote an article talking about Power Rangers showing what it means to be truly American . America is a multiracial country -- making it easier to have a diverse group. Japan lacks that kind of diversity plus language barriers. Non-Japanese cast members in Super Sentai are as rare as diamonds. The diversity of the American audience wo...

Real Good Scare: Viktor Adler As The Second Master Org

Image
Power Rangers is rated under the TV-Y7-FV standards. In short, many things from the source material are toned down and even potentially cooler villains (like Ransik) tend to become Large Ham, American style. However, there are moments when Power Rangers manages to create some villains that can be downright disturbing or cruel to the heroes. One real nightmare fuel is Viktor Adler as the Second Master Org. Power Rangers Wild Force is one such season. I've had my complaints on Power Rangers including the number of episodes. Wild Force only had 40 and I felt "Forever Red" was a weak spot in the series. However, I still feel the Second Master Org proved himself much worse than the Greater Scope Villain.  Jindrax and Toxica discover that the real Master Org was long gone. Both Orgs learn that they were serving a HUMAN. Jindrax and Toxica had redeeming traits compared to their Wild Force counterparts. I find their redemption another plus that Wild Force has over Himitsu Sentai ...

Interesting Video: Yes, Mighty Morphin' Nostalgia IS Holding Power Rangers Back

Image
I wrote about  the Power Rangers franchise getting a Mighty Morphin' overdose . I found this video interesting in so many ways. It deeply explains what went wrong during the Neo-Saban era and Hasbro era -- all too focused on Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers . It's no longer the 1990s! It's time to evolve and not to remain stagnant. Watch this video and understand why I've grown to dislike Power Rangers for years to come!

Power Rangers' Racial Diversity And What It Means To Be TRULY American

Image
It's United Nations month and Power Rangers has a racially diverse team. It was alleged that Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was racist -- never mind that Zack and Trini did their job pretty well. If it were so then Battle Fever J should be accused of racism -- because Battle Kenya wore a BLACK suit! I remember finding Disney's era of Power Rangers "racist" -- which was probably because I started hating Disney because of Hannah Montana  or some other shows. It may be an American production but Power Rangers' racially diverse team says something. It's that an AMERICAN is a CITIZEN and/or NATIONAL of the USA. Yes, whether it'd be a natural-born or naturalized person -- they are STILL AMERICAN. Doing some research on the original Mighty Morphin' cast -- I wasn't surprised to learn the late Thuy Trang was a Vietnamese migrant. Thuy was two years old when she moved to the US -- which explains why she speaks with an American accent. That's why I ...

Why I Think "Beast Morphers" Should've Been Contained In The RPM Universe Instead Of A Huge Throwback Fest

Image
It's been five years and some months after Power Rangers Beast Morphers aired. If Nickelodeon's bad scheduling is one issue with its unnecessary summer break -- I'm also going to bring up the real potential killer. Yes, I'm talking about how Power Rangers is a franchise that's really stuck with the Mighty Morphin' hype. By now, a lot of fans would've grown up and the rose-tinted glasses aren't gonna work anymore.  I read through Dryed Mangoez and it was the blog that taught me to get out of my closet Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters shell, learn to like an unpopular Toku season, and appreciate Ressha Sentai ToQGer . It also wrote a scathing remark against Beast Morphers -- which should be the company's fault over the cast. This really hits the mark where Beast Morphers really went wrong: Beast Morphers as a whole does not do that. When the endgame has to do more with pandering to the older, rose-colored glasses-wearing fans by referencing a season that is ...

Mystic Knights Of Tir Na Nog Season 2 Canceled Because Of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy?

Image
Some shows in the 1990s had their endings hanging. In Japan, there was Yaiba: The Legendary Swordsman which only stopped during the conclusion of the Kaguya Arc. Maybe, one can remember how Flame of Recca and Cooking Master Boy also had hanging endings for the Anime. I wasn't surprised to learn that the Manga went beyond that. In America, some shows get left hanging and there is hardly any proper conclusion. It's not just Haim Saban but the problem also went with several shows. Some shows get canceled even before they can be concluded like Galtar and the Golden Lance and Pirates of the Dark Water . The case wasn't any different for Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog . I heard that was Saban's attempt to ride on the Sword and Sorcery genre. Unlike his other shows that required some form of contract (ex. Marvel-based shows, Power Rangers ), it seemed Saban Entertainment didn't have a contract on this one at all.  Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog may have been the response to He...

The Zyu2 Footage And Messy Transition Towards Dairanger Footage Use (And It Still Kept The Show Going)

Image
It's already known one of the reasons why I don't like Power Rangers is how Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers got overextended. Unlike a certain group, I understand Toei's ultimately to blame (and Saban is practically Luigi to Toei's Mario) since they were the ones who created the Zyu2 footage. They did the same thing when Lion Voltron became a hit in America by creating exclusive footage for American use - footage NEVER used in the original Golion . Both shows were part of my childhood BUT I don't bother rewatching them for personal reasons. I'd like to examine this messy transition. Toei Ltd. and Saban Entertainment may have had what I'd call that POSSIBLE OVERSIGHT. It's known that Mighty Morphin' was supposed to end in 40 episodes. Reading this essay on Zyu2 might help me understand the MARKETING side of things. I believe Toei made that OVERSIGHT when they produced additional footage for Saban's use. Toei could've said, "Well Saban,...

Why I Believe Toei And Saban Owe "Jurassic Park" Their Success Last 1993

Image
I could remember bitching about why Toei had to include a fourth dinosaur Super Sentai . I also don't like Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger though it was still watchable in some way. Before Power Rangers was born - there were some attempts to do so. Watching The Toys That Made Us gave me an insight into a franchise that I dislike. Haim Saban saw Super Sentai in a hotel and wanted to bring it to America. The show was considered too violent, too cheesy, etc. Instead, Toei and Saban would need to wait a little more before their partnership would happen. Before that, Saban attempted Power Rangers with Chodenshi Bioman . The show would end up bringing some elements into Mighty Morphin' like naming the pink ranger KIMBERLY (which was taken from the cheesy English dub) and having a hysterical robot in Alpha 5. I find it hard not to compare Peebo to Alpha 5 because both have the mental programming of a child. Peebo's original voice still sounds similar to Alpha 5. The attempt was again me...
