Understanding Why "Chojinki Metalder" Got Cut Short By Watching Kaiju No Kami's Review

Image
I enjoy Kaiju No Kami's reviews even if he gives low scores to some of my favorite shows. I may have been a fan of Kosoku Sentai Turboranger but I enjoyed his negative review of the show. I may no want to rewatch VR Troopers after watching Chojinki Metalder . Kaiju No Kami's review of the said show highlights some weak points. Compared to most shows -- Metalder was way more serious. Sure, Kamen Rider BLACK was Darker and Edgier but it has a huge fanbase. Hikari Sentai Maskman was also more serious than usual -- it still managed to get a one-year run. However, Metalder only had 39 episodes and why is that? Why did it get rushed? Watching Kaiju No Kami's review -- it can be easily understood. The show's target audience was children. If most of the viewers were teenagers to adults -- who's really going to buy the toys?! I even feel that Metalder's design isn't really all that cool TBH. Maybe, I can say that there were too many Neros warriors put at once. I coul...

Episodes 21-23: Introducing The Show's Top Gunder, Gun Gibson

Image
Janperson doesn't shy away from the hodgepodge of ideas, right? I guess one can already dismiss Gavan as an inspiration for Robocop . One can say that the character of Jiban is not only based on Robocop but also on Robot Detective K. Janperson, though is closer to Robot Detective K, for being fully mechanical while sharing Robocop's designs in part. We had Marie Lazarus brought into the show as Kaoru Saeugusa. Well, except Marie never had a younger brother and Shuhei ends up as a recurring kid of the week after many kids of the week in some episodes. Now, it would also visit the idea from the cult-classic Metalder - a show that only for freaking 39 episodes (presumably due to how serious it was) and it's rather rushed. Yup, I still will always love to point how  Metalder was rushed and how JAKQ was rushed (only 35 episodes presumably due to lower ratings) to even as I point out that Disney Power Rangers seasons tend to rush things a lot.  Now, we're introduced to Gun Gi...

I've Finished Watching Metalder And I'm Given More Reasons Not To Like VR Troopers

Image
After watching Metalder and I personally enjoyed it, I wished it had more episodes because of its unique style of doing Tokusatsu. It's pretty much apples and oranges and I haven't seen Spielban yet (but I have certainly seen Shaider to comment) but I could talk about what VR Troopers lacked. It was also that time when Saban and Toei attempted to localize a lot of shows but had to stop. So what's with VR Troopers against Metalder? It proved that quantity doesn't always make quality. Metalder only had 39 episodes but it certainly was worth it. I guess Toei got too ambitious with Metalder and ran out of budget as a result. After all, they had Maskman and later Kamen Rider Black to handle that year. Metalder was aired first followed by Maskman and Kamen Rider Black which were did special effects and action scenes ahead of their time. Emperor God Neros was truly terrifying over that stupid Grimlord. I think God Neros' transformation was truly more terrifying for a 1...

I've Just Started Watching The Cult Classic Chojinki Metalder!

Image
I've just finished Kamen Rider Super-1 (which left me pretty mixed), and I'm now watching the 1987 cult hit Metalder. Yes, Superhuman Metalder. Metalder only ran for 39 episodes probably due to the super huge budget and ambition this show had. He's the first android Metal Hero and a remake of Shotaro Ishinomori's Kikaider (which I'm yet to see but I don't have much interest on 70s Toku). So what's up with Metalder? Beware... a lot of bashing will be there in between. I did see the series in raw (but not all episodes) and I'm now seeing it with subs. The character is given the name Ryusei Tsurugi. He's modeled after Dr. Koga's late son Tatsuo. He appears to try and learn more about humanity in the show. He has no idea of what it is to be a human. He knows he's a robot and not everyone is ready to accept him. I guess during the time Metalder was aired, the show is meant to be a standalone series. No reference to other Metal Heroes for him un...

That Feeling After I Saw Some Episodes of Metalder...

Image
I was around 15-16 when I first figured out which show was based from which and Metalder was amogn them.  I started to think it was just originality then mixing Shaider right into VR Troopers but what I found out was that, VR Troopers' first season footage was based on Metalder and Spielban while the second season was based on Shaider.  So what's my thoughts on Metalder? The android Metalder is given a human identity as Ryusei Tsurugi, he was based on Dr. Koga's son Tatsuo.  After the bitterness of war, Dr. Koga thought it was best to fight any threat to world peace and as of late, the world peace is threatened by a robotic army that was threatening the world peace.  Dr. Koga dies and Ryusei's sense of justice awakens, allowing him to become the super robot Metalder.

Is Metalder's Main Antagonist A Tribute to the Historical Nero?!

Image
Metalder's main villain, no not the stupid Grimlord of VR Troopers, but he was called God Neros. He was a cybernetic old man who disguises himself as a philanthropist. He was a war criminal who amassed massive wealth by taking over various gangs then later created his secret operations. I even think he is named after Nero. So what makes me think God Neros is based on the historical Nero? As Gozo Kirihara through some really super amazing surgery, makes himself appear youthful even if he was really an aged man living on cybernetic supports. He looks like a philanthropist but in reality, he is Emperor Neros. So I was wondering why was he called God Neros? Did he idolize the actual and historical Nero? It wasn't explained but I thought producers had their reasons why the villain was named as God Neros. I even think they purposely named him Nero and he was truly deserving the name Nero. Nero was an evil man who appeared charismatic. Historically speaking, Nero was a man who w...

Possible Metalder Influences in the Rockman/Megaman Series

Image
Metalder for me had some possible influence on Megaman/Rockman himself although Metalder happens to be darker than the original series.  Here's where I'm seeing some similarities: Metalder like Rockman was the first robot created with emotions.  While he was originally a weapon for World War 2, he became a weapon to defeat the evil Emperor Neros.  Like Rockman X, he can decide on his own. Dr. Ryuichiro Koga who sadly dies at the first episode would be like like Dr. Light.  He creates Metalder as a "son" to defeat the evil Emperor Neros, who used to be an old friend of his. Metalder like Rush is a robot dog.  He is Metalder's ally in battle. Emperor Neros in Metalder (named after the historical Emperor Nero), he is a god complex character.  Like Dr. Wily, he seeks to control the world through his robotics.  Like Sigma in the Rockman X series, he doesn't care about anyone and manipulates everyone for his own convenience. Some robot masters ...
