Mortal Kombat 11: A Game Miles Better Than The Rather Disappointing Tekken 7

Well it's been two days since the release though I just got my game today. Okay, I could go ahead and bitch about some of the game's shortcomings like why are we missing Stage Fatalities AGAIN? Hopefully, there will be Stage Brutalities to make up for it. But in spite of imperfections, I thought about targeting a game that for me was a massive disappointment namely Tekken 7. I waited for that game before I got a PS4 and guess what -- that game has plenty of wasted potential!

Shao Kahn is a better pre-order bonus than Eliza

So I remembered the idea to why I even pre-ordered the game. Shao Kahn is a better pre-order bonus than that who cares vampire known as Eliza. Namco could've made a pre-order bonus containing legacy characters but NO... they decided to settle for that rather idiotic Eliza. What's her role in the game anyway? Shao Kahn is that legendary Big Bad in Mortal Kombat. He had the most badass death in MK (2011) where the Elder Gods carried him over for judgment. He was supposedly dead and Kronika freaking brought his past self into the present. How badass is that?

Story Mode is far superior than Tekken 7

One of the reasons why Tekken 7's Story Mode is a disappointment is how it's carried out. Do you remember that stupid BORING narrator of a reporter who gets into every cut scene. Why didn't Namco just make it the greatest Tekken movie never made? The annoying and boring narrator would just make you go ballistic in many levels. But Mortal Kombat 11's Story Mode is just classic with the smooth transition, NO BORING NARRATOR and the ability to make some side choices. It's like letting Liu Kang or Kung Lao take responsibility in one part and Scorpion or Sub-Zero take responsibility in another.

I can't say Tekken 7's Story Mode didn't have creative ideas. I admit, I did enjoy Heihachi fighting through soldiers or the fight with Jack-4 robots. But the whole insertion of Mr. Boring Narrator actually kills everything. Who cares about that stupid narrator? Sure, I wish MK11 had some scenes where Liu Kang and Kung Lao would fight against zombies or bloody skeletons but the game doesn't have Mr. Boring Narrator!

Kronika is a more interesting female final boss than Kazumi Mishima

Though Kazumi is pretty much the wife of Heihachi -- I just thought her role is somewhat too sudden. I thought making her the Devil Gene source in a retcon is just bad writing. I mean, wasn't Jinpachi supposedly the source of it until that idea was retconned? I felt that it would have been far more interesting if Heihachi didn't have the Devil Gene because it skipped him. I didn't like the whole retcon idea. Also, Kazumi hiring Akuma to destroy Heihachi should he become a threat to the world is just WTF stupid. So really, why did Akuma suddenly enter Tekken when he's supposedly from an entirely different show?

Kronika appears as the mother of Shinnok and Kronika. That would make her a titan in that regard perhaps similar to Rhea and Chronus. Is it me or is a female version of the Greek god Chronus? I wonder if she could be older than Nuwa or one of Nuwa's children? The game doesn't seem to address that but I'd assume she's also the mother of the Jade Emperor (or the Elder God of Primordial Beginnings) and the Grand Supreme Elder God considering that Tong Tian Jiao Zhu (a fallen Elder God in Chinese mythos) was their rather ambitious younger brother. Her purpose was to try and bring back balance in time -- though she probably hated much of her own children for leading the great war against the Titans themselves.

More single player content available

One of the biggest reasons why Tekken 7 can get mocked by longtime fans is the lack of single player content. Remember how Tekken used to add lots of goodies like Tekken 6's Scenario Campaign or Tekken Tag Tournament 2's Combot training? Well, Tekken 7 really wants you to pay money for that bowling game and for secret characters that will NEVER have a character episode. How cheap is that? I hope Katsuhiro Harada is taking a pen and paper to write down his mistakes!

MK11 has the rich single player content. Want a novice arcade mode with just five opponents? You got it! Then you've got to choose between one with eight and the other with 12 opponents. Tekken 7's Arcade Mode is lame for this reason -- you defeat the game and NO ENDING? You have to play through those IDIOTIC character episode series which is just ONE FIGHT? MK11 manages to give you the character endings. Okay Netherrealm why aren't we having animated endings instead of the evolved version of Killer Instinct's endings huh? But that's better than Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom 3 endings, right?

There's also the Towers of Time which is if you want a better challenge. It's a better version of the Treasure Hunt. Sure, it can get mighty frustrating but that's part of the fun. The game also offers various boosts to help one in defeating these challenges. This is all about grinding before you get to unlock more content in the Krypt -- though I wish MK11 made its customization more similar to how Tekken 5 had it where you buy it at the customization shop. I find the Krypt to be not too interesting in the long run but also entertaining in its own way.

MK11 deepens its mechanics (while still making it accessible) in contrast to Tekken 7's rather simplified mechanics that makes it too accessible

It makes me go bonkers just thinking how Tekken 7 allowed people to just hold L1 and press any of the buttons. It's freaking treating the players like they are still toddlers and what year was it released! Freaking 2017! The whole game depth has become quite shallow. MK11 on the other hand manages to really make the game a bit deeper -- such as the hop mechanic and perfect block mechanic though I find them frustrating to learn.

Now what's the deal with Rage Arts vs. Fatal Blows? I think the Rage Art itself was available one per round. Fatal Blows are available one per match. Somehow, Fatal Blows do balance away from the X-Rays which can be pretty cheesy -- though I do prefer the X-Ray attacks in MK (2011) for some heavy combos. The Fatal Blows somehow are even more well-animated than Tekken 7's Rage Arts. I feel this new mechanic managed to improve Tekken 7's Rage Art.

MK11 is accessible but requires plenty of practice. You might want to get some patience into your system and train yourself with the new improved tutorial -- something Tekken 7 could've at least offered. It's stupid how Tekken 7 just went for nostalgic value of unlocking old school endings instead of focusing on newer, richer content for a once award winning game.

What are your thoughts on my opinion on both games?
