Graydon Creed is perhaps one of the most complex characters in X-Men. I remembered watching the X-Men cartoon which somehow implied that Mystique may have married the German count but he wasn't the father. It was hinted in a later episode that after Wolverine saw Nightcrawler in a memory that he saw Sabertooth -- suggesting that Sabertooth may be Nightcrawler's father. Mystique could have used half-brother instead of brother in reference to Graydon. Now, this is where I thought about the irony behind Graydon -- I hate him but I also pity him.
So what caused his severe hatred for mutants? Well, he did find out that his parents Sabertooth and Mystique abandoned him as an inconvenience. This caused him to grow up hating all mutants because he was a normal human born out of two mutants. This was a plot that was used against him severely in Saban's X-Men cartoon. Remember when Wolverine startled him and later the video about Sabertooth revealed his paternity? I really even want to believe Saban's X-Men cartoon wanted to make Sabertooth and Wolverine paternal half-brothers (which happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before X-Men got rebooted) which could have caused the rejection.
I remembered the episode where Graydon was soon rejected by the very group he founded. They found out that not only was Sabertooth his father but also that Mystique was his mother and Nightcrawler his brother. Hmmm I guess Mystique was lying that a certain German count was really Nightcrawler's father -- Nightcrawler bears too strong a resemblance to Sabertooth in the cartoon! The very irony was that the FoH members that disowned their founder was this -- how many of them are sure that they won't be having mutant children or don't have mutant relatives as well? Human parents have birthed mutant children so there's no reason that mutant parents can't conceive a human child.
While one could go ahead and call Graydon a tragic villain but you can't help but hate him because of what he does and his extreme methods. He was leading anti-mutant sentiments all for the fault of his parents. His parents' fault doesn't make it the fault of every other mutant. He could have just targeted them without hating other mutants. Instead, he goes extremes to do so. It was somewhat satisfying to have his parentage and family revealed and for him to get karma in the cartoon. He tried to destroy his family but failed. Then he ends up meeting his abusive father again. Why Sabertooth was surprised to find out he had a human son stupid as f***. If you do research on Sabertooth's parents -- he was the only mutant in his family so it's no surprise he and Mystique had a human son. Hmmm and he doesn't get it that mutants are in fact human too?
