The Resident Evil Canon Films And Mini-Series

I may no longer be updated with the Resident Evil franchise but I can't deny I decided to watch RE: Infinite Darkness on Netflix. Before that, I remembered watching RE: Degeneration which featured Leon and Claire. The CGI movies were followed by RE: Damnation and RE: Vendetta which came out in 2012 and 2017 after the 2008 movie. What makes them different is that all these are canon to the game universe - unlike the RE films which starred Milla Jovovich as the non-canon Alice. I saw the first two RE films though like most movies based on video games - I tend to say they suck. Though Alice is far more worthy of a sequel than Cole Young ever is in Mortal Kombat (2011) movie - it's really an insult IMHO to the 10th anniversary of the franchise's reincarnation!

Watching these films feel awkward especially since the last game I played was Code Veronica for the PS2. My first RE game was RE3: Nemesis. Though, thankfully, it was spelled out in certain detail that made watching the movies not require anyone to play the games first before you can appreciate them. The setting happens after Umbrella's downfall and the rise of other companies that manage to take advantage of it. It's the realism of how Umbrella's downfall didn't mean that STARS' problems are over. Instead, other greater foes appeared such as The Connections. There's also the Las Plagas which works differently from the classic G-Virus and T-Virus. It's because the Las Plagas is similar to the Facehuggers from the Aliens franchise.

The movies are meant for ADULTS, not children. The RE series was rated M17 but all the fake blood makes it tolerable. I mean, just think how somebody can enjoy playing MK while getting too squeamish about the realistic violence in movies like Chainsaw Massacre or Nightmare on Elm Street. The use of CGI can make the most brutal scenes tolerable to the squeamish. Also, there's a lot of deep plots from all these films from sympathetic villains (Arias from RE: Vendetta and Jason from RE: Infinite Darkness) or just plain evil (such as Wilson in RE: Infinite Darkness).

For me, I may have been long outdated but these movies are indeed fun to watch for the plot progression. If you've been outdated from the series for too long - just try giving these a watch. If you feel you want to get the lore expanded - watch these. These are worth a shot IMHO.
