Janperson 47-50: The Final Battle Against Boddicker Ahem Bill Goldy

Finally, we have our final arc which focuses on their deadliest enemy Boddicker ahem Tatewaki. Yeah, I love to throw that corny joke due to how Tatewaki behaves a lot like Boddicker. Now, this is where Janperson must know the true face of his final enemy. This also involves Kaoru Saegusa's "betrayal" which has a very weird way of doing things. Heck, Kaoru even creates Black Carol (and probably collaborated with the cops) to finally take down Janperson's deadliest foe ever!

Unlike the other previous two gangs - Bill Goldy gets a four-part arc. I guess Bill Goldy had become so popular with the fans that he deserved a four-part arc. For some, Bill Goldy was most likely a cyborg version of Boddicker. It's said Boddicker became more popular than his contractor Dick Jones. Jones was more of the generic Corrupt Corporate Executive. Like Boddicker, Tatewaki is an insane guy who plots to remove all competition. These first two episodes are also a tandem writing of Junichi Miyashita and Yasuyuki Suzuki. Miyashita decided to finish the rest himself. This is one finale that manages to have a lower budget than what Robocop had in the final clash against Boddicker's gang. However, Tatewaki proves to be no less dangerous than Boddicker.

Kaoru herself really has some weird plans. Weird yet effective. Kaoru faked her own death with a robot. Now, Kaoru decides to fake her detection - something that was getting too obvious to the audience. Heck, even Gun Gibson started to realize it when he met Black Carol. Black Carol was created from his late girlfriend Carol. Kaoru even goes as far as to fake the death of her friend Junko Tachinaba (acted by Ayako Kobayashi). Junko was involved in research with subliminal messages that were used on children. Tatewaki plans to outdo Boddicker by spreading it worldwide so he could become the Lord of Evil. For the Evulz!

The first two episodes focus on children

I still wonder did Toei Ltd. catch wind of the incident where a child shot a maid and the Robocop movie was blamed? I think I misheard when it was said it was the Robocop cartoon which one of them came out in 1988. Either way, it was stupid to blame Robocop for the incident. Rather, the father's gun was really in a very accessible location. This is what happens. It seems a scene in the first two episodes of the final arc was a jab on that. Then again, we do have Toei Ltd. successfully launching Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers with the help of Saban. There were moral guardians who had been wrongly accusing Power Rangers of a lot of incidents. Do they even know Super Sentai is MORE VIOLENT than there are much fewer children following what they see on TV in JAPAN? Go figure that out!

We see children getting berserk in school. We see Shuhei watching Combattler V. Heck, that scene should've told my 14-year-old self that Janperson is part of Toei Ltd. Then again there was no Internet back then in our home. Did I ever mention that I actually felt Toei should've sued Saban over the use of Shaider and Janperson footage? Well, good thing I learned that Saban had a contract. Sure, I really don't like Power Rangers after watching more of Super Sentai. Still, I respect the fact that Toei ultimately owns it. Saban and Toei both have been partners. I guess Toei's apparent douchy behavior explains why they have had a long working relationship with Saban. Both and the GREEED. I mean, think 1993 was the year when Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers made it to the USA. Later, Saban and Toei both mutually agreed on the Zyu2 footage. Yeah, the GREEED because Toei and Saban cared more about selling toys huh?

Back on topic. Sorry I got lost. The scene where Shuhei watches Combattler V (and his majesty, the late Emperor Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. banned Voltes V supposedly for "violence" while other similar shows were STILL AIRED). The next scene is where Shuhei PICKS GUN GIBSON'S GUN and starts going on a rampage. Fortunately, Kaoru is more logical than to blame Combattler V. I wonder if Toei actually planned to have Shuhei watch the Robocop movie or the 1988 cartoon instead? It would be a jab to stupid people IF the Robocop cartoon was shown before Shuhei went on a rampage. Kaoru later discovers that it's a result of some subliminal message. Some children can follow the violence on TV IF there's hardly any parental supervision. Yeah, Janperson has been that violent while Japan has LOW RATES of the school shootings in contrast to the USA and the Philippines.

I'm amazed at how Kaoru and Junko set a very convincing scheme. Tatewaki knows he could use the subliminal messages for his FINAL BATTLE. I guess Tatewaki was now fully aware of the demise of his two other rivals. Tatewaki wants to make that move. Kaoru makes a convincing fake defection. Heck, it even deceives both Janperson and Gun Gibson. Kaoru does berate the stupidity of Cindy and Maya. Kaoru sends an army of children to destroy the base to make it look convincing. Speaking of destroyed bases - Jiban's base was also destroyed. Fortunately, R-Zico survived, unlike Harry Boy.

I was amazed at Kaoru's plan. Kaoru had Tatewaki fooled. Kaoru canceled the subliminal messages. Later, Kaoru goes as far as to revive Black Carol with a very brilliant plan.

The final two episodes focus on Bill Goldy

Bill Goldy's final plan is not yet revealed. I think giving an extension was because Bill Goldy is really that popular with viewers. I guess it's more of a fan demand to give Bill Goldy more screen time before he's written off. The episode focuses on Gun Gibson. Gun Gibson is shocked to find out Carol's grave has been dug. Kaoru dug it because she had a very weird plan. A weird plan that ultimately work it sway to uncovering Bill Goldy's secret identity to the heroes!

Kaoru had a lot of body language. Gun Gibson tries to confront her and finds she's got a plan. Gun Gibson tries to make sense of Black Carol. However, Black Carol breaks out the bitter truth that she was created by Kaoru with a plan. Black Carol reveals that her memory chip contains all the answers. Gun Gibson is aware that Black Carol isn't the woman he loves. Kaoru's gestures tell Gun Gibson this and that. Kaoru does a very convincing performance (for now) that fools Bill Goldy.

Bill Goldy, as always, shows why he's practically Japan's biggest crime boss. Bill Goldy later shoots down Black Carol. Gun Gibson puts a performance of "mourning" for Black Carol. However, that's not without Gun Gibson taking away the memory chip as Black Carol told him to. Gun Gibson gives the memory chip to Janperson before supposedly perishing. The memory chip contains data that convinces Shuhei that Kaoru didn't betray them. Janperson then moves to finally face off with Tatewaki.

Janperson moves towards Tatewaki Konzern where he finally meets Tatewaki. I'd say this is a toned-down version of what Robocop had when Robocop was clashing with Boddicker. Chains clamp Janperson and Tatewaki becomes Bill Goldy. Bill Goldy tortures Janperson. Janperson manages to fake his death. I guess villains do have their overconfidence. Kaoru does get hurt and tries to end her life in a fit of insanity. Janperson awakens and stops her. Janperson then begs Kaoru to activate his MX-A1 persona. Kaoru protests but Janperson insists that Bill Goldy needs to be destroyed at all costs.

Tatewaki, Maya, and Cindy go out well-dressed. The time to release the message for world conflict is on. People are now going on a rampage. Gun Gibson reveals that he's made it, unlike Top Gunder. Janperson having his MX-A1 persona activated must face Bill Goldy. The final battle happens in the dark and it rains. It's not explained how it suddenly rains after that. The final battle has Janperson going full Terminator against Bill Goldy. Gun Gibson battles the other two secretaries. The two secretaries end up dead in an explosion during the battle.

The battle gets more personal. I guess there was no budget for other crooks to drop slag on Janperson. It'd be nice if Bill Goldy had other goons do so. Both Janperson and Gun Gibson use the Jic Cannon and Spindle Cannon against Bill Goldy. Just imagine if both of Jiban's cannons were used at the same time. Though, Janperson may be weaker than Jiban just like how the Rescue Police Trilogy suits were never designed to beat off monsters of the week. Janperson uses the Jan Blader and thrusts Bill Goldy (now helmetless). Ugh, that scene still freaks me out. Though I wanted Janperson to be crushed down by rubble AND then he uses the Jan Blader to stab Bill Goldy's neck. I guess such a gesture would've not been allowed by time constraints or was rejected. Janperson's humanity surfaces again when he saves Kaoru. Bill Goldy, now looking older, says, "I'LL BE BACK!" in English - Terminator style!

The final scene has both Janperson and Gun Gibson having a day off. No weapons with them. I guess any plans to kill Gun Gibson or R-Zico were scrapped due to how depressing Janperson can be as a series. Jiban lost some allies when his base was destroyed. However, Jiban was still able to have his younger sister. Janperson and Gun Gibson are at the Toei Amusement Park. They're serving barbecue. The show finally ends and that's where I felt should've been the final appearance.

However, we have this one... which I personally disliked

Speaking of which, I did remember how Janperson and Bill Goldy were renamed Karato and Goldex in Beetleborgs. Yeah, that episode showed up before I saw Tatewaki become Bill Goldy. As mentioned earlier, I wondered why Saban was never sued by Toei. That's until I found out that Toei has been giving Saban the contracts. That's why no matter how much I don't like Power Rangers - I still refuse to call it a bootleg! Karato and Goldex were just guest characters. The "special guest Janperson" was Karato actually. Back then, Janperson was aired with Beetleborgs on Sundays on ABC-5.

I have seen a few episodes of B-Fighter - a show that came after Blue SWAT. The show is considerably more serious than the junk that's Beetleborgs. I did see the finale crossover in raw. Personally, I felt mixing Janperson with Blue SWAT into B-Fighter was nothing but fanservice. I always felt Janperson should've (1) remained self-contained, or (2) linked with the Rescue Police Trilogy. Though, it'd be hard considering that cast members of Exceedraft guest-starred. I guess Hiroshi Miyauchi was unavailable to even resume his role as Captain Masaki. I wanted Captain Masaki to arrest Jeff Gondo and make a reference to a crook played also by Ryosuke Sakamoto. Still, we know what happens when a franchise makes too many throwbacks. Just think about how Kamen Rider made too many throwbacks in the Showa era. Having too many throwbacks is also another reason why I think Power Rangers is going from bad to worse

The finale crossover had Jagul returning. Jagul was a villain who was hired by Jamahl and supposedly died. Jagul absorbed the villains into herself. Sigh, I felt Reiko Ayanokouji was disrespected Up to Eleven when she was absorbed into Jagul! B-Fighter is pretty much a standard Toku. Janperson is pretty much more like a cop drama than a Toku show - even if it's under the Metal Hero banner! I feel like Bill Goldy's return here was somewhat unnecessary. We did have other villains swearing to return too. Think about how Grand Lord Crisis (who may or may not be the Not-So-Great Leader) from BLACK RX, the Creation King from BLACK, Radiguet from Jetman, etc. swearing to return only to be hit by a STFU. The Not-So-Great Leader has never shown itself since the Kamen Rider 1990s movies or even in the actual series of Kamen Rider starting with Kuuga. The Not-So-Great Leader has been only returning for non-canon movies and that's it.

Sure, I can dislike Power Rangers all I want. Still, it doesn't mean that the Japanese products haven't had their defects. It's like how I dislike certain Toku series maybe by Toei Ltd. I still hate Kamen Rider Decade calling it the spiritual successor of Saban's Mashed Rider. I still feel that Ninninger was only vindicated because Ninja Steel was WAY WORSE IMHO. I think Bill Goldy returning in B-Fighter for a three-way crossover wasn't a good move IMHO.
