Daimos' Other Villain, General Sakimori Miwa

There was the late Tadao Nagahama's Super Robot Romance Trilogy. The third and final installment was known as Tosho Daimos. Daimos' main villain was Generalismo Olban. The show explored a Romeo and Juliet type of love story between two races - Earthlings and Baam-Seijins. Both Kazuya and Erika would keep learning that not everyone from their race is purely good or purely evil. Like Combattler V and Voltes V before it - Daimos also had good members of the alien race. Daimos decided to add a bigoted character who hated all Baam-Sejins alike. That guy was actually General Sakimori Miwa who was dubbed over as General Harris. I'd like to bring up why this guy was probably one of the best villain plots ever conceived.

In war, some people are plain opportunists. Miwa's supposedly on the side of good but in reality, he's probably best suited for Complete Monster. He was supposedly an ally of Daimobic. However, he was far from an ally like General Oka from Voltes V. Instead, Miwa is a cowardly extremist who'd do anything to be seen as the Hero of Earth. His ultimate aim is to exterminate all BAAM-SEJINS. Although he claims to be doing it for the Earth - he has little care about human life and would do ANYTHING TO GAIN POWER as a General Ripper. Almost every episode he's in is always he's always that nasty and disagreeable man. He's supposed to help the Daimobic base but he ends up wanting to be a control freak, a bully of sorts, and a Token Evil Teammate in a show with Grey-and-Gray Morality. It seems Toei wanted to create some degree of realism since people like Miwa DO EXIST.

Sure, Daimos did present its main antagonist Olban as the final threat. However, nobody can deny that Miwa himself has been a constant source of trouble. Early on, Miwa even goes as far as to say DIRECTLY that civilian casualties don't matter IF the enemy is defeated. Miwa is a coward who expects Daimos to save his own hide. Later, Miwa wanted control of Daimoc and Daimos so he could destroy ALL the Baam-Sejin. There was even an episode he wanted more nuclear weapons not minding the casualties it could cause.

Eventually, Daimos episode 40 showed how stupid and wicked Miwa could get. The Underwater Fortress surfaces because of some underwater volcanic eruptions. Miwa just didn't care how many of his men die as long as he was seen as the Hero of Earth. Miwa even defied a United Nations order just to get what he wants. Before that, Miwa did try to get Kazuya jailed just so he could have the Daimos robot for himself. Miwa takes advantage of Daimos saving the day but tries to grab credit AGAIN. Eventually, Kazuya has had enough and beats Miwa to a pulp until the guy falls unconscious. I can't blame Kazuya for going berserk knowing how insane Miwa is. Miwa was actually ordered for arrest which most likely happened off-screen

An interesting detail is that in non-canon settings - Miwa does end up as a villain in the Super Robot Wars games. Miwa does end up getting a karmic death from what I heard. I haven't played any of the new Super Robot Wars games so I can't be certain how he died. If that's the case then I'm glad that Miwa himself has become a villain in the spin-off series. The villain showed the true horror of what vengeful humanity could become.
