Mystic Knights Of Tir Na Nog Season 2 Canceled Because Of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy?

Some shows in the 1990s had their endings hanging. In Japan, there was Yaiba: The Legendary Swordsman which only stopped during the conclusion of the Kaguya Arc. Maybe, one can remember how Flame of Recca and Cooking Master Boy also had hanging endings for the Anime. I wasn't surprised to learn that the Manga went beyond that. In America, some shows get left hanging and there is hardly any proper conclusion. It's not just Haim Saban but the problem also went with several shows. Some shows get canceled even before they can be concluded like Galtar and the Golden Lance and Pirates of the Dark Water. The case wasn't any different for Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. I heard that was Saban's attempt to ride on the Sword and Sorcery genre. Unlike his other shows that required some form of contract (ex. Marvel-based shows, Power Rangers), it seemed Saban Entertainment didn't have a contract on this one at all.

Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog may have been the response to Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. However, the show was aimed at a younger audience. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys still had some provocative scenes and the use of REALLY SHARP WEAPONS. Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog may have tried to be what if Dragon Warrior had an American live adaptation. IMHO,Saban and Toei should've tried to secure the rights of the Dragon Quest for Saban. Toei already produced the Dragon Quest Anime series with permission from Squaresoft. I wonder why Saban and Toei never thought of making it "feel more authentic". Instead, Saban decided to try out Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog.

The show ran for a year and a final ending came. However, the ending was left hanging and a second season was planned. It was supposed to be called Battle Thunder. However, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog suffered from a similar fate as Yaiba and Flame of Recca. The show was left hanging. Nemain gets even with her former student Maeve. Maeve is exiled after her defeat. However, Nemain is seen with the Silver Chalice. Midler proposes an alliance with Nemain. Nemain says she'll think about it. And then that's it? That was the ending? Was it all there was to it?

Instead, from what I heard, the budget was transferred to fan-favorite Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. I may no longer like it but no one can deny the expensive budget it had. It was said Power Rangers could've ended if it wasn't for Power Rangers in Space. I guess Toei was impressed and decided to continue the Power Rangers brand. If Space failed then Lost Galaxy would never exist. Chances are that Saban would've given the green light for Battle Thunder. Instead, the project went on with Lost Galaxy and the Digimon English dub.

IMHO, I think it had to do with the popularity gauge. Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog may have been planned for a sequel due to its popularity. However, Space practically saved Power Rangers so that Saban knew where the money was. Toei decided it was still feasible to continue partnering with Saban for as long as possible. That was all before Toei approved Saban's move to sell Power Rangers to Disney. Saban knew where the money was. I even feel Toei prodded Saban to allocate the budget to two major projects instead. Toei would also know where the money is at.
