The Dictator's Marvel VS. Capcom Incarnations May Be My Favorite Incarnations

Street Fighter characters get revamped in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. One of the biggest revamps done was with the Dictator (Bison in the U.S., Vega in Japan). Bison was pretty much a charge-based character in the mainstream Street Fighter games. Playing as them can be challenging unless one knew the secret of holding downwards-back instead of just holding back to effectively use them. X-Men vs. Street Fighter and its follow-up Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter introduced the M. Bison incarnation that I love the most.

After playing the Street Fighter Alpha series -- I felt that Bison's usage of a special move Psycho Crusher wasn't my style. Instead, having Bison use the Psycho Shot in its place and a Psycho Crusher as a highly damaging Super Move was the way to go. Sure, later games gave Bison a Psycho Crusher as a special move and a Super Psycho Crusher as a super move -- mostly for Level 3 only. The Marvel vs. Capcom series gave us an upgraded version of Bison from the Street Fighter Alpha series. Here, Bison uses the Psycho Shot as a special move with the same set of Super Moves. However, most of Bison's moves were given the half-circle forward motion except for his Flying Fist and Head Stomp moves. That meant I had the joys of spamming Psycho Shots and Scissor Kicks back in the day.

An added Marvel vs. Capcom exclusive was called the Psycho Field. Bison would release a purple bomb. If timed right, Bison could leave significant damage on his opponent. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 created the Psycho Explosion Hyper Combo. The move was never integrated into the regular Street Fighter continuity for some reason. Street Fighter also never bothered to beef up the Super Moves for some reason.

The Psycho Crusher in the Marvel vs. Capcom series was somehow well-balanced. It did a decent amount of damage for a Hyper Combo. I enjoyed how I could execute it just with a quarter-circle forward motion + 2P instead of having to do that ridiculous charge B-F-B-F motion. I could laugh evilly then pretend to get mad when it gets overridden by a simple projectile. Well, a lot of Hyper Combos could be overridden by a simple projectile or have a longer recovery time when missed.

Overall, I only enjoy beating his ass in the mainline Street Fighter series. However, I enjoy using him in the Marvel vs. Capcom series where I imagine myself as that evil dictator.
