The Complicated History (And Rivalry) Of Cable And Stryfe In Marvel Comics

I may no longer like Marvel because of how New Disney screwed it up. However, I'd like to share some moments of Cable and Stryfe. Cable is the son of Cyclops and the Jean Grey clone, Madelyne Pryor. Unlike Saban's X-Men: The Animated Series, the comics don't shy away from brutal violence. Apocalypse was awakened when Cyclops' and Madelyne's son, Nathan Christopher Charles Pryor Summers, was born. Nathan's powers manifested since infancy.

Apocalypse would have the right to be amazed and fear the child. Apocalypse kidnaps the infant Nathan and infects him with the Techno-Organic Virus (TOV). Did Apocalypse do it so he could kill Nathan? Nonsense! Instead, it was looking for a new body that would give Apocalypse the longevity to do so.

The decision was painful. Cyclops makes a tough love decision to leave Cable to the mysterious Mother Askani. Mother Askani is actually Rachel Summers - an alternate-reality daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey. Okay, I'm still angry at Marvel for finally killing Jean Grey AND creating the Cyclops-Emma pairing. I still hate the Cyclops-Emma pairing! Nathan was sent to the future where they try to heal him. Mother Askani decides to clone Nathan with the healthy cells. Amazingly, Nathan managed to survive for some reason. The question came as to what would be done with the healthy clone.

Askani Apocalypse took the son believing that the clone was the real son of Cyclops and Madelyne. Askani Apocalypse raised Stryfe for several years. A time loop happens since the Askani Apocalypse named Stryfe after an enemy from the past. Cable probably messed things up more than Future Trunks ever did! Later, Apocalypse tried to transfer his consciousness into Stryfe's body. Apocalypse got disgusted discovering Stryfe was the clone - not the real deal. Askani Apocalypse was destroyed for good. However, the time loop continues since Stryfe has bad blood with all forms of Apocalypse.

One of my favorite plots is Stryfe's involvement in the Summers family. Stryfe believed that he was the real son and Cable was the clone. Cable had cybernetic parts and may have been a failed clone. What disgusted me to think was that Stryfe probably raped Aliya Jenskot. That means Tyler Dayspring isn't Cable's son but Stryfe's son. Whether or not that paternity is confirmed is hardly said. Though it's disappointing that Tyler's powers are anything but spectacular. I guess Marvel wanted to prevent too many powered beings like Dragon Ball Z. Stryfe would later find out he was the clone and Cable was the real son of Cyclops and Madelyne.

Stryfe would still be responsible for other stuff. Stryfe's reasons to release the Legacy Virus into the present are unknown. However, with Apocalypse having raised Stryfe, it's possible that Stryfe wanted to weed out the strong from the weak. The Legacy Virus would first cause mutants to die. However, after Infectia died from it, the virus would soon hurt humans as well. Cable's life would still be haunted as Stryfe would somehow just KEEP RETURNING.

Just thinking about it - it's a disappointment that Stryfe ever played a big role beyond the comics. The X-Men: The Animated Series supposed finale only gave him a CAMEO and nothing more. A cameo as one of Apocalypse's tools to rewrite the Universe in the latter's image. Sure, Stryfe had toys from Toy Biz. However, it seems adapting Stryfe would be harder than Cable. It's unexplained why none of Stryfe was never put into the cartoons or the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). I think he's probably just too brutal to fit into toned down media.

Either way, Cable vs. Stryfe has to be one of the most interesting rivalries ever.
