Janperson's Second Half

Image
Janperson felt like a show with two halves for these reasons.  One might consider these midseason changes that happened: Janperson was a solo hero until midseason which we are introduced to this guy... The midseason of Janperson featured Gun Gibson.  He was originally a bad guy but he became a good guy after a few episodes.  For me, he was a pretty interesting sidekick considering he was once a member of Guild.  He joins Janperson in fighting against the three main enemy factions. Ryuzaburo Tatewaki during the second half was also transformed into the cyborg Janperson bootleg known as Billgoldy which for me has a badass design.  His approaches when from silly but dangerous to being serious and dangerous, which placed him at bigger odds against the Neo Guild and Super Science Network.  Ever since Billgoldy got introduced, we have a much different opening sequence with the same song with Billgoldy featured as the main villain! Janperson ...

Gatchaman, Gatchaman Inspiration Everywhere

Image
Gatchaman is one of those early 70s Tatsunoko cartoon which I believed left an impact to the 80s and 90s.  Now for possible Gatchaman inspirations after Gatchaman: The five piece super hero robot shows.  Combattler V, Voltes V and Golion basically have the leader, rebel, fat guy, woman and boy lineup.  Gatchaman had no robot but these guys had their combining robots.  The Super Robot shows came from Toei and so did Super Sentai. Super Sentai does owe its inspiration from Gatchaman.  Goranger was the first one with the five agents riding a battle mecha, battling a Gallactor similar organization. In Jetman, both Ryu Tendo and Gai Yuki were both frenemies like Ken Washio and Joe Asakura in Gatchaman.

The Sanitized Violence of Conan the Adventurer

Image
Conan the Adventurer (the cartoon series) was no doubt a hit show. But who would have thought that it was actually based on a series of novels and two movies that were obviously NOT for children? It shocked me or not when I saw a rather censored-down version of Conan the Barbarian movie of the 80s -- it had a load of violence that made it obvious that the Conan movie wasn't for children! No serpent men sent away to another dimension -- the serpent men were all butchered in several badass scenes such as the Mountain of Power battle or the Battle of the Mounds! The sanitation begins with Conan -- he's a far cry from what Robert E. Howard's version of Conan. The cartoon Conan was an honorable and just character, he wasn't a thief nor a womanizer in contrast to Howard's Conan or Arnold Schwarzenegger's portrayal of said character. This was toning down an otherwise most savage hero of all. All he ends up doing is use his Star Metal sword to vaporize the serpent me...

Remembering Kimberly Hart of MMPR

Image
As a kid, I was watching Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers for silly reasons aside form just the "kiddie value" or that I'd watch almost anything.  So I did watch some badly dubbed Sentai (which I don't want to see again), MMPR was another one in the list.  Though I didn't like MMPR all that much, you already know Kimberly Hart was my guilty pleasure in the s =how.  And moving on my thoughts aside from the bizarre coincidence that Hikaru Katsuragi was dubbed as Kimberly in Bioman. First episode had me blinded by her beauty which for me, she was the hottest Toku heroine back then.  So I did think she was still a teenager but the actress Amy Jo Johnson was 23 years old by the time she landed the role.  While her acting skills were average at first, she got better.  For the character, while she is initially introduced as a ditz, she isn't actually stupid. She might not be smart as Billy but she can come up with her own covert way of fighting. Although she ...

A Collection of Kimberly's Smiles in Power Rangers

Image
Watching MMPR as a kid, I was basically bewitched by Kimberly Hart. And I would say her beauty is pretty unique from most of the Power Rangers girls and Super Sentai girls. Too bad writers derailed her in Zeo. Now for those sweet smiles.

A Look Back at Harvest Moon: Back to Nature

Image
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature was back when I had a PS1 which is sadly not operational anymore and it's not as durable as the PS2 (even the memory cards are busted).  So I thought I did have my fun playing this game and back then, Gameshark was still used so I did use some infinite codes to make my gameplay easier the second time around. The whole plan is to get the farm to good shape in three years or you get the bad ending.  If you get the good ending, you can play indefinitely but... I'd rather actually restart the whole game after I've ended the game.  For me, I had to follow a Gamefaqs plan to survive without a Gameshark since money here is hard to find.   Marriage is one part of the game which you can get only if you get all extensions.  So really, I would admit later I used an infinite lumber code to do this.  I married in the second year of the game, which I remembered I courted Mary and married her.  Okay why her?  I thought ...

MMPR's Friend in Need Arc

Image
One can say that Toei did have the idea of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai crossovers but it was done only on stage.  Power Rangers isn't purely copy/paste depending on who the producer is and here, Saban tried to promote his failed Mashed Rider with the three part special "Friend in Need".  So my thoughts?  So I did HATE Saban's Mashed Rider due to poor quality but I thought that, Sentai SHOULD try to do this the first time I saw it. The concept was this- Masked Rider was crammed into the Power Rangers' universe to which the Power Rangers must fight to defend Edenoi.  I thought the idea was cool but it was basically flopped by poor writing.  But still the idea was cool.  Here Lord Zedd considers Count Dregon an "old rival" though it was never explored in Saban's Mashed Rider.  The fight scenes were pretty lame but still, the idea was cool. The story was where Dregon enslaves Edenoi (scenes taken from Black RX involving Crisis Empire, and FYU Drego...
