Five Reasons Why Tekken 7 Is Full Of Wasted Potential

Image
Tekken 7 is a game with so much potential. It's beginner friendly, it's got smoother gameplay and the potential of the Story Mode which was somehow popularized by the Mortal Kombat franchise. However, there's one thing that can be truly certain - Katsuhiro Harada has become SO COMPLACENT over his past successes that he's already shooting himself at the foot this time round with THIS GAME. How so? I would like to talk about the wasted potential that the game has and what really happened.  First, Story Mode SUCKS HARD with its execution I admit, I was getting really excited when it came to Tekken 7 having a story mode. I was getting excited just thinking how a Japanese company would finally try and get what Netherrealm Studios did and make it even more legendary. But what happened? I simply got into what I'd call a flat-out disappointing execution of Story Mode one way or another. How disappointing? I thought about Mr. Most Boring Narrator or Mr. Boredca...

How I'd Remake Beast To A Certain Extent

Image
As much as I find the Beauty and the Beast (2017) to be really bland in terms of acting but it did add some backstory like why Beast turned out like that. It was revealed in the 2017 version that well Beast's mother died at a young age and he had a selfish father. So I'd assume that this selfish father died prior to the events of the movie. I thought it was a nice addition though I thought about trying to alter the curse's origin. Whether or not the Beauty and the Beast midquel should even be considered canon is somewhat debatable. I remembered the slight contradiction where he didn't dismiss her twice but only once prior to the curse. It does add some problems such as when was Chip born or was Beast really only eleven when the curse happened or was ten years an exaggeration? I wanted to even shorten the deadline for the curse. So if Belle is presumably 17 years old and Beast would be 20 going 21 -- then I thought about what about if the curse happened to him in h...

Belle's Unfabulous Life

Image
As I did rewatch the Beauty and the Beast (2017) to make yet another critique and wishful thinking -- it's clear that I wanted Emma ROBERTS and not Emma WATSON for Belle. I don't think it'd significantly change things -- I thought that you needed someone who's pretty and doesn't have much sex appeal to be Belle. Roberts fits all that appearance-wise! So what's my reinventing of Belle? I did write about my ideal remake with the ideal cast  -- now I thought about yet another wishful thinking of how Belle could've been carried out - by combining certain aspects of Addie Singer from Unfabulous into her. Unfabulous? Well that could be the tag word that Belle could have said in the poor provincial town. No need to really re-sing the song "Belle" for the beginning -- auto-tuning ANYONE isn't going to work either! My ideal opening is where Belle can be seen helping her father home (like the 1946 movie) and gets a visit from Gaston who wants to marry...

Appreciating Jun Kazama's Important Role In The Tekken Series

Image
If there's any of the old generation character that I tend to have a soft spot for -- it's actually Jun Kazama. There's really a jarring time jump between Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 of 20 years and it's presumed that Jun was just killed by Ogre or somehow -- Namco hasn't even released an official statement what happened to her. In canon, Jun only appeared once and I mean once and that's Tekken 2. She only appeared in non-canon such as the Tekken Tag Tournament games. Now, I'd like to really raise up just how important is Jun in Tekken? If you remember Tekken 2's roster and who were killed or no longer appeared before Tekken 3 arrived -- you have King I (who was replaced by King II), Kuma I died of old age, Michelle Chang and well even Yoshimitsu's rival Kunimitsu just disappeared without a trace within canon. Jun is no different yet has Namco really considered her importance? If there's any real "main protagonist" of Tekken 2 -- it...

Belle And Beast Had Way Better Chemistry 26 Years Ago

Image
Newer is always better? Not really! It had me thinking of why I tend to get negative about some modern remakes of many beloved animated classics. Right now, I even think about how Disney is already going for the worse and the whole movie last year -- Beauty and the Beast (2017) was no exception. Now it's time for a comparison of Belle and Beast and the chemistry they had together in both films.  I decided to rewatch the bland remake just to make this article. I thought about how much I actually thought of it as my favorite fairytale -- how a prince trapped in the appearance of a monster (while still maintaining his human biology) and having to have someone love him and be loved in return was my fantasy. Now how does it fair in 2017 vs. 1991? I would have to say that the chemistry of 2017 is just down flat -- I can't even decide which is worse between the 2018 version of Meteor Garden or the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast in terms of bland chemistry between the leadin...

Remembering Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Learning To Balance Old School And New School Concepts

Image
"Learn from the old and pursue the new." is one thing that one can learn from innovative thinking yet it's frequently overlooked in today's day and age. Perhaps, my greatest beef today against some people who pursue new stuff is when they fail to learn why the old masterpieces succeeded and enhance them. Tekken 7 unfortunately has some of its problems like why in the world did they decide to spend budget on almost all previous Tekken endings rather than pursue in improving arcade mode, adding team battle mode or everything that actually made Tekken Tag Tournament 2 a smashing game or make a better story mode than their competitors? I could remember the perhaps minor frustration when I played Tekken 6 where I had to play through Scenario Campaign to unlock certain characters for its Arena Mode and play through only four freaking matches to unlock the ending. Then I bought Tekken Tag Tournament 2. At first, I wasn't so much of a fan of the "symbiotic relatio...

One Beef I Have Against Mortal Kombat X: I Want Animated Endings And Theater Mode

Image
Mortal Kombat X is supposedly MK4/Gold improved in many ways. For instance, we've finally have a Goro vs. Goro battle in the arcade ladder rather than where the PS1 version of MK4 and MK Gold just FAILED to do that for some glitchy reason that you ended up fighting Shinnok TWICE. Stupid huh? Though I do have my beef to why Goro was made a pre-order DLC or paid DLC -- I still thought Goro's gameplay implementation was improved in spite of that minor triviality once you've gotten MKXL instead of MKX. Another thing I want to think about is my desire for cinematic endings and a theater mode. Yes, only if we can see all those magnificent cutscenes in MKX's Story Mode in theater mode together with ANIMATED character endings. I was thinking that the whole Faction Wars concept is probably one weakness I'd count against. Not only did it punish people for simply not playing and participating (and right now, penalize me all ya want baby because I've got my life to liv...
