Changeman Elements in Power Rangers in Space

Image
Power Rangers in Space deviated from Megaranger's computer theme.  So what's going on?  Here's some of the Changeman elements taken into the series: Dark Specter would be similar to Bazoo in Changeman although the former is NOT a living planet plus I hate how Darkonda easily spelled Dark Specter's end (Judd Lynn has a problem with finale arcs).  Like Bazoo, Dark Specter had an alliance of evil from different areas of the Universe except his formed a much larger (but also more incompetent scale) of villains.  Ahames could totally kick the asses of the United Alliance of Evil! If Trakeena would be my pick for who would have been the Ahames of Power Rangers, another character from Super Sentai who was inspired was... well Astronema.  So who's similar to Astronema?  It goes back to the Hirohisa Soda era of Changeman, the villain Shiima.  So what do these girls have in common?  Shiima was taken away from her home planet as a baby and brainwashed ...

How Time Force Deviated From Timeranger

Image
Although Time Force sticks to time as the theme but there are some differences we may want to point out... While Timeranger had the year 3000 occupied by both aliens and humans living on Earth (and yes, Dolnero is NOT a mutant), Time Force has a unique deviation in its own way.  Ransik the Time Force main villain is NOT an alien but a mutant born from a laboratory accident.  The criminals that Time Force arrests are renegade mutants whose counterparts are aliens in Timeranger.  Timeranger was more of an ancestor to Dekaranger and Power Rangers SPD.  Time Force imo may have been inspired by X-Men as well with the mutant/human war and quite coincidentally, Faiz had the human vs. Orphnoch war as well.  I hope producers at Toei will add a mutant vs. human war in Super Sentai after it was done in Kamen Rider Faiz. Alex deviates greatly than Captain Ryuya who was that "I just want to live." type of character who can be debatable if he was a villain or not. ...

Lost Galaxy: Ways It Deviated from Seijuu Sentai Gingaman

Image
One of Lost Galaxy's merits is that while it does have Gingaman-ish elements, it does also deviate from Gingaman.  Note some of the stuff I've written here are actually also drawn from similarities.  These are: The members of the crew were Terra Venture's military NOT descendants of rangers.  So Gingaman has its lineage concept (which was ported into Shinkenger) while it was completely removed in Lost Galaxy.  So yeah, too bad PR Samurai didn't do the same.  And the rangers here are well, some of them are different from their counterparts.  Kai Chen is a smart guy but weaker vs. Gouki who is less intelligent but stronger.  Maya of course is female while Hikaru is male.  Damon has no rivalry with anyone whatsoever compared to Hayate's with Shelinda. Magna Defender although he like Bullblack also sacrificed himself, lost his son not his younger brother.  In the exclusive one, Mike as the second Magna Defender sacrificed his powers to get T...

Lost Galaxy Elements: Possible Elements from Other Tokusatsu

Image
Judd Lynn apparently doesn't just take inspiration from just the previous Power Rangers series alone, it looks like he also took it from aside from the obvious Seijuu Sentai Gingaman, well probably Jonathan Tzachor (who's a lazy writer) also was involved as its producer: Some metal hero influence.  Although Mirinoi is basically taking the Ginga Forest into a different galaxy but I can't help but think that the higher ups at the Terra Venture are like the Space Police.  Instead of metal heroes, they have rangers to help them. The staff at Terra Venture may be comparable to the Galactic Police of the Space Sheriff Trilogy, though they were NOT a police force.  Since they are military, I was thinking of comparing it also to Flashman.  High Commander Renier is the first PR female commander like Aya Odagiri but she is way older considering her rank is higher than a commander.   Changeman and Flashman.  PR in Space took a little bit of Changema...

Dr. Light's Role in the Megaman Series

Image
Dr. Light is the "father" of Megaman, Roll and Protoman.  So he was once Dr. Wily's best friend and colleague but the two became sworn enemies. Dr. Light sought to use his robots to help mankind while Dr. Wily sought to conquer the world to build a new era of scientific genius.  Dr. Light's role wasn't all that expanded until Megaman 3 and he had some focus in Megaman 5.  He would have a posthumous version of himself in the Megaman X series. In Megaman 3, Dr. Wily pretended to change his ways which was a sham.  Dr. Wily and Dr. Light built the eight robot masters in Megaman 3 to mine for elements for Gamma. Dr. Wily later stole Gamma which Megaman had to stop him.  In Megaman 5 and 9, Dr. Wily kidnapped him.  In Megaman 5, Dr. Wily sent a Protoman imposter later revealed to be his Darkman robot.  In Megaman 9, Dr. Wily frames Dr. Light. Dr. Light is responsible for many upgrades Megaman underwent throughout the series.  In the original Mega...

Bass' Post Megaman Series Legacy

Image
Bass the villain turned anti-hero and well complex counter-Megaman robot before Zero was created, had apparently left a legacy after the Megaman series ended.  Known to be introduced as a badass villain in Megaman 7 (Dr. Wily's first self-made counter-Megaman) and an anti-hero for Megaman Power Battle, a self-aligned nuisance in Megaman 8 (since he rebelled against Dr. Wily his creator), he apparently left a legecy behind for the Megaman X series aside from Bass.EXE in Megaman Battle Network: The first one would be Zero who is also Dr. Wily's robot, hence his "younger brother".  Zero like Bass is powered up by Bassnium while being the orignator of the Maverick Virus.  Another is that when Megaman X4 was released, like Bass, Zero became a playable character.  Like Megaman and Bass, Megaman X4 allowed the player to choose whose story to play as- either X or Zero.  Using either one will force the player to play as the other until the game is finished.  Dr...

Power Rangers: Some Ways It Differentiates From Its Super Sentai Counterpart

Image
If Power Rangers just kept copying/pasting, it will be utterly boring which sadly happens too much lately.  I mean, it's just pretty a waste of time if it's just copy/paste.  Now for some ways it differentiates to make the adaptation a more unique experience: Change of motif between two shows.  MMPR didn't copy the dinosaur theme but instead, had Turboranger's "recruit teenage with attitude" trope codifier in its place.  Other shows that followed the motif were also its two succeeding seasons, Zeo, PR in Space, Lost Galaxy and RPM. Making sure your characters are NOT always matching the Super Sentai counterparts.  Aside from the "she's male in Japan" done during Saban era, presumably because of cultural difference, one can also see some differences.  For example, some rangers between here and there are opposites.  For example, Billy is a nerd while Dan would be bored with stuff Billy loves. Making PR exclusive villains.  It's fun whe...
