Mortal Kombat (2011) - The MK Game That Nearly Brought Everything Together IMHO

Image
Personally, I don't really care if people keep saying that MK11 or MKX is the best of the reboot trilogy for the franchise. For me, the honor will still go to MK (2011) which is fondly called MK9 by the fans. I feel this game needs to be REMASTERED at all costs especially since its tenth anniversary is arriving. I was thinking about this game made me drop almost every MK game ever made in the past except for MK Shaolin Monks . Shaolin Monks was a good adventure game that made MK Mythologies Sub Zero feel it never existed and was possibly a retcon of MKII . However, after MK9 came in - I didn't even bother playing MK Deception a game that I did praise so much. MK Deception actually fits its title with deception very much - it would be better to play MK9 instead . It's because MK9 is the franchise's entry that nearly brought everything together. The nostalgia the game has is rather heavy since Netherrealm was aware that some children snuck away to play the game. The gam...

MK11 Is Starting To Suck (In Part)... At Least For Me!

Image
I was thinking about how MK11: Aftermath was shown and it's really HIGHWAY ROBBERY. Overpriced, incomplete, and not to mention it already shows why I actually regret buying the game. At least, MKX gave us a complete edition in MKXL which served as a beautiful compensation package since the last gen consoles were impossible to make. Something worth thinking about that MKX wasn't exactly as grindy though some requirements were actually grindy. I mean, I hate the whole idea that I need to win 30 online matches with Liu Kang to get his Revenant costume. Meanwhile, the complete package gave all the paid DLC characters together with Goro. Yes, Goro was a pre-order bonus. Then I thought about  MK11 in itself is starting to TICK ME OFF. So, I guess games today have become highway robbery because of MICROTRANSACTIONS for hidden characters. Sure, Aftermath does give us free Friendships and free Stage Fatalities. What ticks me off is that we have to BUY AFTERMATH to play as the new set of...

Mulan (2020) - Bringing Dishonor To Us All With A Crystal-Clear Beautiful Desperation

Image
Well, Disney screwed it again, right? I always thought about a couple of times I actually nitpicked Beauty and the Beast (2017) because I wanted Emma Roberts to be Belle. However, even if Roberts were Belle but a bad script and bad directing would still flop. They got Crystal Liu to finally become Mulan. Yes, this Mulan is hotter but is the script any good? I'm not really going to compare it to Mulan (2009) which was NOT for children. Instead, I'd like to really show Disney's indecisiveness regarding what it wanted to do with Mulan (2020) . They were set for a "more realistic" story yet they added Wuxia magic and aimed for a PG-13 rating. A PG-13 movie is not necessarily a bad thing. The first Mortal Kombat movie by New Line Cinema won Midway (and later Netherrealm) was pretty good though I wanted it to have some of that gore from the game.  I just wonder did Disney EVER learn its lesson? Or better yet, did Modern Disney ever learn its lesson? There's so muc...

So The Venjix Virus Infected Toei Ltd.'s Database?

Image
So I was thinking about how Power Rangers Beast Morphers (no surprise at all) made Evox as a reformatted Venjix. Though before that, some vibes from Power Rangers RPM entered into Super Sentai with Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . No surprise, Judd Lynn is a fan of the series. Toei Ltd. brought in Go-Busters with some Power Rangers references such as "It's morphin' time" and calling every robot a Megazord. Mirai Sentai Timeranger brought in an enemy mecha called the G-Zord. Yasuko Kobayashi was also the writer of the first official TV crossover for Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. Venjix was defeated in RPM (though the show only lasted for 32 episodes which are just rushed) but he wasn't destroyed. There was a hint that Venjix would return. In Beast Morphers, he even managed to cross dimensions and entered the mainline universe since RPM belonged to a different continuity. That makes me imagine that Venjix actually crossed Toei Ltd.'s database and infected it! My im...

Non-Canon Mortal Kombat Media's Influence On The Mortal Kombat Official Canon

Image
The Mortal Kombat franchise had its own original materials. However, the non-canon adaptations ended up influencing the game lore. The 1995 Mortal Kombat movie also had a pseudo-sequel in Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm (MK: DOTR) and the non-canon prequel Mortal Kombat Conquest . We also had the failed Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (MK Annihilation) .  Goro's status after the first tournament from the Malibu Comics The official continuity had it that Goro was presumed dead. The Malibu Comics just didn't do that. I guess the popularity of Goro over Kintaro just can't be contested huh? Malibu Comics made a featured clash between the two titans and Goro WON. This one really makes you think about how it affected later games. The non-canon (though possibly a retcon) MK Shaolin Monks made Goro return to Outworld after the first tournament. In MK9 , Goro did return to Outworld safe and sound after the first tournament where Liu Kang defeated him. Kintaro's story to avenge...

Mortal Kombat X's Cancelled Goro/Onaga Saga

Image
Mortal Kombat X truly had a really interesting comic book series. Sadly, after a series of interesting episodes - we just need to REALLY accept that some things were not meant to be completed, right? What truly was an exciting plot dangler was when Goro sought the power of Onaga. If you remember, Kotal Kahn actually cut off Goro's arms (which I believe is rumor become reality since some say Goro's arms were ripped off in a non-existent comics). Goro gets eliminated from the competition due to his injuries and Sheeva becomes the new Shokan queen instead. So, Goro meets Daegon. In the original timeline - Onaga had NOTHING to do with the Red Dragon. Here, Daegon is a servant of Onaga when it was not used in MK Armageddon .  You can consider this video from History Behind the Warrior which DC Comics writer Shawn Kittelson talks about what could've happened. I find this very interesting and why this NEVER happened is still a mystery to me. It's revealed that Goro is desti...

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi Trilogy

Image
After I have written about two rather AWFUL Dragon Ball Z -based games - I'd talk about the greater games that made me throw away those two games. This is the Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi trilogy which allows you to relive the stories of the Dragon Ball Z franchise. Although not exactly complete (and there's no arcade mode) but this game has a different fighting mechanic. The full 3D gameplay makes use of unconventional ways of entering special moves (such as pressing L2 + Triangle + Up together) or pressing a button to fly or go down. In fact, the game is simplified such as doing the basic attack to doing a super move is the same for every character - that is entering the command. The second to the third game did introduce the concept of transformation. The transformation concepts would actually have certain characters go into different phases. Some transformers are irreversible (ex. Frieza and Cell) while others could revert back to base form (like the Saiyajin characters...
