The Mortal Kombat Reboot Trilogy: Each Game Plays Quite Differently From The Last With The Dial-A-Combos

Image
It's no secret that I don't long to play the first eight Mortal Kombat games . I also feel the 3D era was one massive deception, especially Mortal Kombat Deception . I played Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat Trilogy has lost its appeal . I think Mortal Kombat II  has been massively overhyped for some time since the franchise was launched to much higher heights overshadowing the first game. I got hyped with Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11 . There were some gameplay mechanics that remained (such as the use of Tekken's use of one button assigned per limb default attack scheme, the sweeps and uppercuts, and the fatalities.  What may be good (or bad) is how MK deals with the Dial-A-Combo which was blatantly copied from the Tekken series? Unlike Street Fighter , Tekken requires players to memorize certain combos. The system was copied into Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and has stuck with MK ever since. The difference was MK (2011) up to the present removed multiple ...

When Mortal Kombat Copied From Killer Instinct Years Before The 2013 Reboot

Image
No franchise today is completely original. Tekken was a game that was clearly copied from several games. Virtua Fighter came first and Tekken came next. Anybody can obviously see that Tekken is full of pop culture references like Kazuya's Vegeta-style hair, Paul and Law might actually be based on Enter the Dragon's two main heroes , Nina is a Sarah clone, and you can think of Heihachi as Dr. Wily with muscles. Mortal Kombat has not been so original either especially when it got out of its comfort zone. The 3D era (which I consider a MESS now) was copying stuff. The same went for the reboot era which copied some stuff from Killer Instinct . Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance made some obvious and subtle references It's already known that I freaking hate this game for one good reason - my favorite character's death! It's like how I hate Marvel comics now for how they got rid of the Cyclops-Jean Grey coupling, how Wolverine just got tossed aside, etc. This game did try som...

The Big Reveal Of MK1 (Spoilers)

Image
I may have not played Mortal Kombat 1 yet but I'm literally a Spoiler Addict. The opening scene features Shang Tsung meeting with Kronika. In this timeline, Shang Tsung has become a quack salesman who sells fake cures. In the Midway continuity and Reboot Trilogy continuity - he was still the same evil sorcerer. Shang Tsung gains some power from Kronika. Yet, this one comes with what might be a dirty finger to Kronika due to her probable poor fan reception. Personally, I think Kronika's concept was interesting since her resetting timelines to start new ones causes so much trouble. Kronika ends up killing countless in the process. The cycle of reincarnation would cause Shiva (who I believe is among the Elder Gods here) to weep, "How horrible is the creation!" Secretly, I was hoping Kronika from Mortal Kombat 11 was returning with that intro. Come on, we just saw Kronika give Shang Tsung his status as an evil sorcerer again in this lifetime. I think Fire God Liu Kang was...

Mortal Kombat's Tarkat Disease Is Straight Out Of Resident Evil

Image
I guess Mortal Kombat hasn't really ceased getting inspiration from the rival franchises huh? If Tekken has been taking inspiration from Street Fighter then so has Mortal Kombat . Just think of how Tekken created Asuka as a Sakura Expy and Lili as a Karin Expy. Both Tekken and Mortal Kombat have blatantly made references to the Enter the Dragon movie such as how Heihachi and Shang Tsung are obviously based on Han. Mortal Kombat even tried to copy (and modify) certain gameplay mechanics from the Marvel vs. Capcom series . Mortal Kombat 1 copied the Special Partner concept from Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and gave it some modification. Well, if that wasn't enough we're getting a blatant Reisdent Evil- inspired plot! In both timelines from the original timeline to the second timeline - the Tarkatans were always a separate race. However, with some of Lord Liu Kang's plans, Tarkat has become a disease instead and those afflicted are called Tarkatans. The people ...

Speculation: Motaro In MK1 Is Based On Older, Removed Plans For MK9

Image
Right now, I have no intention to get a PlayStation 5 or Mortal Kombat 1 . I guess life will get busier and busier, right? However, I'm going to speculate again based on how NetherRealm Studios decided to give Motaro a bigger role after how they treated him in Mortal Kombat (2011) - the franchise's reincarnation after Mortal Kombat Armageddon . I'm simply going to speculate why I think Motaro in MK1 is actually based on some removed plans. Doing Motion Kapture has never been easy . If one played MK (2011)'s story mode then notice some features. One could notice how Motaro was given some cutscenes. You can see Motaro making a few cameos but hardly involved. I would say they finally got Motaro integrated because of scenes like he's at the arena with the other bad guys, he bows down to Shao Kahn, he fights with Johnny Cage, and he gets KILLED BY RAIDEN. Motaro was finally written off and I really didn't care. In fact, I was more than happy not to fight that MOFO in...

Opinion: Why I Feel Voltes V's Finale Was Better Than Golion's Finale

Image
With Buntis Faib Legacy's conclusion, I felt that reviewing Voltes V and Golion  was at hand. I rewatched the finale arcs and they did have some things in common such as: Both of them involved a prince being arrested and removed from power by their respective emperors. Zambojil had his second nephew Heinel removed. Daibazaal had his son Sincline removed. Both involved the titular Super Robots finally attacking the heart of the empire.  Both involved a final giant Beast Fighter duel. Voltes V faced off against the giant Beast Fighter Godor. Golion faced off against a Beast Fighter called Mecha Beastman Galra. Both had the base of operations turn into a spaceship for the finale. The similarities are there but there are also differences. Golion was trying to do some original things. Meanwhile, I think Voltes V did better than Golion in these areas: The role of the giant main base was revealed to be a spaceship. I think it was better that the whole Solar Falcon traveled to ...

Alan Lee Almost Sounds Like A Younger Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa

Image
Mortal Kombat 1 just got released. I'm not surprised that some people are now leaking out their first playthrough. Meanwhile, I'm acting carefree about the issue because I feel there would be more microtransactions or that a PS5 is a BOTTOM PRIORITY. I just want to replay Mortal Kombat (2011) because it's practically the Bloody Grail of the franchise. I listened to Shang Tsung's voice on the clips and I thought Alan Lee was Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa. However, Tagawa is 72 years old and the voice sounded younger. Man, I'm amazed that Lee himself did a VERY GOOD Tagawa impression! I remembered MK (2011) and it turns out that Ed Boon wanted Tagawa to be Shang Tsung's voice. It's too obvious as Shang Tsung's intro in the reboot is, "YOUR SOUL IS MINE!" There were not-so-subtle nods to the movie . Just think how Kano looks like the late Trevor Goddard. Sonya Blade looks like Brigitte Wilson-Sampras. Johnny Cage looks like Lindey Ashby.  It's too obvi...
