Megaman Legends: Still Remembering My Funniest Failure In The Game

Image
I confess that Megaman Legends is one series I wish hadn't gotten canceled so soon. A third game could've at least wrapped up the franchise before its cancellation. I would like to recall one of the craziest moments in my gaming history. I had Megaman Legends back in high school -- a game that I badly wanted. The game wasn't the standard Megaman game. I didn't like the idea that you had to ask Roll Caskett to switch weapons rather than be able to change weapons. Was it because of the memory space of the PSX back in the 1990s? Yes, the PSX is NOTORIOUS for its slow loading times. There are a lot of crazy moments in the game. One could talk about the sidequests where the Bonnes have a bomb threat (which I failed at it, MANY TIMES) and the hilarious Bank Robbery Mission. I'm prone to gamer rage A LOT. However, this was one gamer rage that makes me laugh at myself. The Defend City Hall mission is probably the craziest one... There was one annoying (but the same time fun...

Why I Don't Think Megaman Legends Is Part Of the Mainline Megaman Series

Image
Capcom unfortunately canned the prospective Megaman Legends 3 series (WTF) and now is making Street Fighter V just exclusive to PS4 for consoles in the current generation (again, WTF, they shouldn't have done that)... I really want to write my case why I personally don't think Megaman Legends really belongs to the Classic Megaman universe. Like Megaman Battle Network , it is best viewed as a spin-off rather than part of the original Megaman series. Now look at the settings of Megaman X and Megaman Legends - Megaman X has all the high technology in it which the Legends series lack. The Scouter would be obsolete in Megaman Legends . The Bonnes aren't even chased by the Maverick Hunters. You can go and list everything - Megaman Volnutt really belongs to a separate continuity from Classic Megaman. The default Megaman continuity goes from Megaman, Megaman X and Megaman ZX but there is no way that Megaman ZX after 1,000 years. I think the Megaman Legends series was a ground...

Walter Emanuel Jones Clears Out The "Racist" Accusation In "Mighty Morphin'"

Image
I may not like Power Rangers BUT I understand why it exists. It's all part of INTERNATIONAL MARKETING! The accusation back then was that it was racist that Zack Taylor was the BLACK RANGER and an AFRICAN AMERICAN while Trini Kwan was an East Asian as a yellow ranger. Truth needs to be told that IT'S NOT RACIST. It only SEEMS RACIST but it isn't. In fact, neither character is portrayed as a negative stereotype regardless of their character flaws! Instead, the actor Walter Emanuel Jones gives this remark -- not especially on the MONTH of Himitsu Sentai Goranger's 50th year: "While some choose to seek out the negative, I’ve always believed in focusing on the positive," Jones wrote. "I understand the impulse to address what might be seen as cultural insensitivity, but calling it a 'mistake' would dismiss the impact it had on countless people around the world who found inspiration and representation in TV’s first Black superhero — morphin’ into none o...

Finished With Blue SWAT: A Strange Tribute To Hollywood Alien Films?

Image
I finally finished Blue SWAT . I was waiting for some time to watch this. It's official now that I've seen most Metal Hero series but not Kabutack and Robotack . Metal Hero was canceled but not forgotten. Metal Hero influence could still be observed even long after it was discontinued. It has the same fate as the Super Robot Anime series -- canceled but not forgotten. Watching Blue SWAT gave me a deeper appreciation for the overrated masterpiece  Tokosou Sentai Dekaranger. However, this show can still be more depressing than Dekaranger . Dekaranger would later repeat themes here while giving tribute to the Rescue Police Trilogy. What I enjoyed about the 1990s shows was the more mature theme. For example, Tokosou Robo Janperson is actually more violent than the Robocop cartoon. This was the era when occasional gunshot wounds ON HUMANS happen. Blue SWAT presents a darker, more intense atmosphere than what Dekaranger was allowed to do. Sure, Dekaranger's overarching antagonist...

The Three Big Bads of the Space Sheriff Trilogy

Image
We are introduced to three big baddies who were the main enemies of Gavan, Sharivan, and Shaider.  They have different methods in their quest to take over the Universe. It's unknown whether or not they battled for some time, but here they are, those stuck in the wall villains: Don Horror of Ucchu Keiji Gavan Gavan's foe was the Space Crime Organization Makuu. Don Horror was pretty much well... WALLPAPER! He was the background character that kept barking orders. It's never explained how Don Horror became the way he is. Did Don Horror get paralyzed or what? Is he a Dark Lord Under Life Support? It's a typical 1980s show, so don't expect too much from this Orcus on the Throne! He's pretty much like Horde Prime in She-Ra: Princess of Power in some way.  I found Hunter Killer to be rather generic. Instead, things got better when San Dorva and his wife, Witch Kiba came along. Witch Kiba is an old hag -- suggesting that Don Horror is also an OLD MAN. However, I must wo...

Magneto And Mystique: From Not Working Together To Being Portrayed As Working Together

Image
There will always be creative liberties with adaptations. Saban's X-Men: The Animated Series was an adaptation and alteration of the comics. A lot of stuff from the COMICS couldn't fit into a Saturday Morning Cartoon .  One of the many things that shocked me was that Magneto and Mystique didn't work together in the comics. In fact, Mystique actually took part in ARRESTING Magneto and was never part of the OG Brotherhood of Mutants incarnation. It was because Magneto and Mystique were often portrayed working together. The X-Men arcade game featured Mystique as Magneto's cunning second-in-command. It also had Magneto successfully taking over a Sentinel factory. Juggernaut was portrayed as a mutant instead of a mystically-enhanced superhuman -- something I wish was done in X-Men: The Animated Series . Wendigo was still an odd choice, though -- since Sabertooth would've fit better! The game came out in 1992 -- months before X-Men: The Animated Series . The game was base...

Saban's Failed "Tenko And The Guardians of Magic"

Image
Who can remember 1990s cartoon shows that only lasted for one season? I remember watching some of those shows like Pro-Stars , The Wizard of Oz (by DIC), Dino Riders , Galtar and the Golden Lance , Conan and the Young Warriors (which was really TERRIBLE), etc. which never went for a whole year's run. Some of them get canceled before they could be concluded. Haim Saban tried to bring Princess Tenko (who's currently 65) to America. However, it didn't work.  The magician Princess Tenko showed up in three of Toei's Tokusatsu shows. Tenko showed up in episode 31 of Denzi Sentai Denziman . Tenko would later guest star as HERSELF rather than a made-up character. Tenko's guest role in Ucchu Keiji Gavan in episode 29 (and she also ran into Hirohisa Nakata aka Mason in Chodenshi Bioman ) and in episode 24 -- ALSO AS TENKO! In my case, the most memorable performance for me was in Gavan -- back when it was dubbed as Skyranger Gavan in Tagalog. The show premiered in 1995. It fai...

What, Nicole Kidman Was Going To Be Poison Ivy?

Image
It's know that not only am I a Poison Ivy fanboy but I also ship her and Batman. I have to take IMDB with a grain of salt. This is what I heard happened during the Batman Forever casting: Joel Schumacher wanted Nicole Kidman to play Poison Ivy, but he decided that Ivy, Two-Face and the Riddler would be too many villains for Batman. Poison Ivy (played by Uma Thurman) was saved for Batman & Robin (1997) . Interestingly, the next movie Batman and Robin was too many villains. Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane are practically NOT a good mix. Wouldn't Poison Ivy complain if plant life were frozen by Mr. Freeze? Plus, I hated the subplot of Poison Ivy seducing Robin WHEN she she could be seducing Batman. Comic Book Resources says this about Nicole's role : Nicole Kidman did well as Dr. Chase Meridian in Batman Forever, but one can't help but notice that character's flirtatious demeanor and Kidman's red hair and wonder why the actress wasn't cast as Poison Ivy in...

Remembering The Late Val Kilmer For "Batman Forever": Perhaps One Of The Best Portrayals Of The Dark Knight

Image
Another nostalgia gone too soon? It was already bad enough that Barbie Xu died of pneumonia at age 48. Val Kilmer died of pneumonia at age 65. The guy's old enough to be my parent -- which may give me reason to give him deeper respect. Batman Forever was part of my childhood. The sequel Batman and Robin was a surefire stinker that presented one-dimensional, almost Pure Evil villains.  I was disappointed to think about Val not returning for Batman and Robin . But maybe, it was for the best he didn't. Why? That movie STANK beyond STANK. I could understand if I wrote a bad fan fic since I'M NO PROFESSIONAL WRITER. Come on, you've already noticed my writing style is rather casual. However, anybody can cringe when a team of professionals is screwing up bad. A 2020 interview with the actor , gave meaning to why he never reprised the role: In a new profile on Val Kilmer from The New York Times, the actor addresses his departure from the role of Batman. After only starring in B...
