Golion 26-30

Image
Here's another set of episodes for Golion . The Lion Voltron episodes obviously cut off anything that's too brutal. Now, it's time for the next set of episodes.  Episode 26 As the defeats at the hands of Golion -- they decide to start using some subtler tactics again. Honerva creates an invisibility cloak. Sincline chooses a four-armed Beast Fighter called Bullbar to do the job. An invisible Beast Fighter would definitely do the job. Sincline still daydreams of capturing Fala for his sick pleasure. Once again, one must wonder where Amue is in Castle Galra? Is Amue simply getting too boring? Or is Sincline wearing condoms if ever he's actually raping her? Such details are best left out!  Fala, Hiroshi, and Hysteria are out getting fruits. However, the invisible four-armed Beast Fighter starts causing trouble. There's some scenes of people getting crushed by rocks -- something not shown in Lion Voltron for obvious reasons. Having an enemy one can't see can be a di...

Golion Episodes 21-25

Image
Golion goes in a more bizarre direction. This time, we get a couple of episodes. Some of them connect to a previous plot. Others just didn't. That's a common problem with writing superhero show episodes. Golion would be no different. There are bound to be errors with different writers involved.  Episode 21 The Lion Voltron episode was tamed in the dialogue. However, this is where Golion adds some sexually suggestive dialogue. Sincline has his collection of women. Now, Amue is used as a substitute until he gets Fala.  Amue is called Sincline's plaything -- hinting that he molested her. However, there's still some censorship that prohibits rape. Amue was still fully dressed when she was returned. It might be that Sincline touched her privates but never bothered to do it with her.  Amue escapes with some women that Sincline kept for his pleasure. Alor wants to rescue Amue. This is where Amue's capture becomes a running gag. Amue's simply kept alive by Plot Armor. Y...

Golion Episodes 16-20

Image
After giving Prince Sincline's introduction -- here are a bunch of rewatches. Warning: Some of these episodes can be grim. Yes, stuff that's not appropriate for TV-Y7-FV -- stuff that made localizing Hyajakuu Golion a necessity. Anyway, here are some of the episodes coming up! Episode 16 After Sincline's introductory arc -- it's time for him to get into a regular episode. The story of the two kingdoms is told. Two lovers from ages past tried to build a bridge. The love goddess Roman (this might be the same Goddess that split Golion) heard their pleas and built a bridge. Years later, it was destroyed during Galra's invasion of Altea. The bridge is rebuilt but spoilers -- it's destroyed again! This episode reveals Sincline's womanizer nature. Tsuyoshi gets to act as the youth from Helena. Fala acts as the youth from Altea. It's interesting to see Daibazaal try to teach Sincline about the basics. Daibazaal's probably only 50 years old by Galran Years. H...

MK1: Animalites Return But I Thought It Was A Lame Addition

Image
Mortal Kombat 1 is even more bloated than its predecessor Mortal Kombat 11 . Is it me or has gaming gone too far with microtransactions? Khaos Reigns is the new DLC pack like MK11: Aftermath followed up by MK11: Ultimate . Yes, greedy for money and no company is ever immune from it. I felt that MKX wasn't that excessive as the DLC stopped DURING its release of the complete edition. However, MK11 went too far and I only play the game if I want to pretend to be Shao Kahn. Right now, the return of Animalities is here.  I played that extremely broken MK Trilogy back in the 1990s . Using that one-button fatality cheat -- I would seldom use animalities without using Mercy. Some animalities were in place but others were out of place. Reptile becoming a chimpanzee was just funny. Sheeva becoming a Scorpion but Scorpion becomes a penguin? Klassic Sub-Zero never got an Animality and either did the Klassic characters in that game. It was funny to use the one-button cheat while playing a chara...

Mortal Kombat 1: Lady Cyrax And Lady Sektor

Image
Is Mortal Kombat 1 plain woke or not? If there are multiple timelines then people DO reincarnate in the Mortal Kombat universe. It's not exactly confusing. Liu Kang is from the Shaolin Temple after all. In the New Era -- we have roles reversed. As Cassie Cage said in MK11 , "Timelines are confusing." The trailer reveals Cyrax and Sektor are now women? Are these the reincarnations of the previous ninjas (and Lady Sektor is revealed to be Madame Bo's daughter) or other versions? Jacqui Briggs may have been reincarnated as Lady Cyrax for all we know. Fire God Liu Kang reveals to MK1 Sindel the past timeline. Yes, that moment you realize that MK9 wasn't actually the past but ANOTHER TIMELINE. That means Raiden sent a message to his NEXT LIFE than to his PAST SELF. Raiden mistook visions of his past self as his future self! MK1 Sindel was told what she was in another timeline. This would only mean REINCARNATION. That means the evil Sindel in MK11 was the reincarnation ...

Golion Episodes 14-15: Sincline's Introductory Arc

Image
For the past few episodes -- it seems the Galrans were mostly For the Evulz. However, episodes 14-16 give us an idea of what may be the Golion's greatest threat. Prince Sincline (Lotor) is introduced in episode 14 as the "Crown Prince of Hell". The Galran Royalty is pretty much For the Evulz. I wonder where the citizens of Planet Galra are?! Voltes V showed us the Boazanian citizenry. Daimos showed us the Baam-Seijin citizenry. Dairugger XV showed us the Galveston citizenry. I wonder why we don't see much of Galra except for the royalty? However, I'll just pretend that some non-human prisoners are critics of Emperor Daibazaal's tyrannical rule.  While watching Lion Voltron -- I simply can't help but make Lotor my favorite villain. Lotor had more depth than King Zarkon. I even hoped that Lotor would one day succeed in overthrowing Zarkon. I even imagined myself as Lotor. Lotor was actually more dangerous than any of the people on Planet Doom. In Golion -- S...

Golion Episodes 8-13

Image
After the introductory arc, we have episodes 8-13 that feature Sadak before Prince Sincline (Lotor) arrives. Rewatching these episodes makes me think of Galra's For the Evulz MO. We get a good idea of Galra's depraved activities. There are times they do come up with something good. However, some of their plans seem to just gloat in "Look at me! I'm evil!"  Episode 8  This episode quickly debuts after Princess Fala replaces Takashi. Come on, the ending sequence already gave it off! The episode starts off with Fala trying to get used to things. Isamu is training Fala to become a better pilot. Fala still has a LOT TO LEARN about piloting the Blue Lion. Yes, it's really easy to look down at Fala early on. Fala's not in the same league as Chizuru of Combattler V and Megumi from Voltes V. However, it doesn't mean Fala can be underestimated!  The episode features some obvious foreshadows. Bambara is a villain and Hysteria foreshadows it. Honerva wasn't ...

Special Post: Remembering Movie Thulsa In The Light Of James Earl Jones' Death

Image
I remember watching an edited version of Conan the Barbarian as a child . The movie scared me a lot -- even if it lacked prolonged torture scenes. I thought the movie was for children. However, seeing the film has made me look at Conan the Adventurer more as an old shame. If there's one character that I thought defined the late James Earl Jones (JEJ) -- it's not Darth Vader (as a voice) but him as Movie Thulsa Doom. Most adaptations of Thulsa Doom resembled Skeletor from the He-Man series. Movie Thulsa was more akin to the snake wizard Thoth-Amon. It's unknown why they used the name Thulsa Doom instead of Thoth-Amon. Was it because the name Thulsa Doom sounded scarier than Thoth-Amon?  Movie Thulsa was the leader of the snake worshipers. He was portrayed as a cowardly character who used psychological manipulations and magic. The film begins with Movie Thulsa's two henchmen Rexor (played by the late Ben Davidson) and Thorgrim (played by Steve Ole Thorsen) leading the a...

Let' Golion: A Rewatch On Lion Voltron's 40th Anniversary (Episodes 1-7 - The Introductory Arc)

Image
Yes, you got that right! I was planning on doing this. Sure, I understand that Hyajakuu Sentai Golion was too violent for TV Y7-FV. It should be interesting that Golion aired on March 4, 1981. That would take place on the fifth anniversary of Combattler V . However, in Eastern reckoning, it may be the fifth anniversary of Chodenji Machine Voltes V . I remember watching Lion Voltron back in the 1990s. It was a rerun of a cartoon in 1984 -- three years after Golion wasn't well-received in Japan. Just a bit of a warning: I'm VERY biased against American remakes of Japanese shows -- even if they had a license. Expect my review to be biased against Lion Voltron like I'm PERSONALLY biased against Power Rangers .  Who can remember Lion Voltron's cheesy voice and the censorship? The show was connected to Vehicle Voltron . However, Golion was NEVER connected to Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV -- a show that's still better than Vehicle Voltron but lacks focus. Yes, that whole fle...

Cammy White: Street Fighter II V Non-Canon Origins VS. Her Street Fighter Alpha Revelation

Image
Video game series can be full of strange retcons throughout the years -- no company excluded! I remember the Super Street Fighter II games -- the ones that introduced Fei Long, Cammy, T. Hawk, and Dee Jay. Eventually, Akuma became a hidden character in Super Street Fighter II Turbo . As a child, I had this thing for Cammy more than Chun Li. I believe it was a result of the American superiority mentality going on -- never mind I actually dislike MOST American localizations of Japanese shows (and the vice-versa can be very true).  It's quite funny how Street Fighter II V and the American Street Fighter cartoon came out in 1995. The American Street Fighter live movie was in 1994. Cammy's first non-canon adaptation was in the  Street Fighter movie. Cammy had two different adaptations. I prefer the Japanese Anime due to its better execution. Cammy was somewhat of a love interest for Guile in the American cartoon. However, Guile was canonically a family man and Ken Masters' broth...

Charlie Nash In The "Marvel VS. Capcom" Series' Alternate Story

Image
The Marvel vs. Capcom series is built on a What-If storyline. Interestingly, Charlie was brought into the Marvel vs. Capcom series instead of Col. William Guile. Guile made his debut in the Street Fighter II series. Charlie's story was set up in the Street Fighter Alpha series -- which took place after the first Street Fighter game but before Street Fighter II series. Charlie made it into X-Men vs. Street Fighter   with a slightly modified version of his fate. Street Fighter Alpha 3 gave some interesting details such as how Cammy was made as a female version of the Dictator (which is just bad writing IMHO) and Charlie's death.  X-Men vs. Street Fighter has some what-if endings. However, Charlie's ending was confirmed canon. Charlie went missing and was assumed dead. However, it turned out that the Dictator decided to turn Charlie into Shadow. Shadow was a secret playable character in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and a Special Partner in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of...

Part Of Me Actually Enjoyed The Shao Kahn/Sindel Retcon (And Part Of Me Didn't)

Image
I wrote how the Sindel revelation in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath was pretty WTF . However, I realized that part of me enjoyed the Shao Kahn x Sindel retcon. I remember a quarrel I had over some a**hole who claimed he was Jerrod, I was Shao Kahn, and the woman was Sindel. The story back then was that Shao Kahn murdered Jerrod, forced Sindel to be his (but that woman reminds me of Mileena now), and adopted Kitana as his daughter. That was the story that people all grew up with. The story went on in Mortal Kombat (2011) . By then, I already overcome that so-called crush and recalled my real first crush. However, I still remember that A**HOLE and how he still messed up my life. I fantasized about performing a fatality on that A**HOLE and getting the woman back then. However, things changed when Mortal Kombat 11 came into the picture.  Mortal Kombat 11 truly shaked things -- perhaps for the worse. Sindel's ladder ending reveals that she came up with the story of how she was force...
